I’ve been following your career for a few years now. I once found your sense of humor witty, sharp, and intelligent. You were unlike any comedian I had seen- it was cutting edge. I’d seen the various talk show formats you’ve tried, and I was disappointed when they failed. So I was anxious to see you replace that dipshit Craig Kilborne on the Daily Show. What the Hell was I thinking. You suck! What part the Daily Show has given you the balls to think you’re the funniest thing that’s ever roamed the T.V. channels? You don’t do anything but introduce ‘reporter’s’ making fun of odd, but real, people. It wouldn’t even be that funny if they didn’t edit the fuck out of the reports to make the people look even stupider. When it comes time to interview your guests, do you think you could faun over them any more than you do? Why do I care how much you admire, respect, and envy each and every guest you ever have? It’s the same thing night after night. Your routine is as old as Howard Stern telling a woman he’d like to see them topless. Gee Jon, tell him how funny you think they are, tell him how great you think they are for the umpteenth fucking time. But what really chaps my ass is some of your recent appearances. I saw you on C-Span last week knocking on the youth of America. You said that teens and X’ers don’t deserve to vote. You said MTV’s ‘Choose or Lose’ is a waste of time and a stupid idea. According to you, the youth are too dumb to vote and haven’t given you any reason to think otherwise. Who stuck the righteous quarter up your ass? You told the reporters in the room your show was directed at the smartest of the smart. Hah!?! I saw you on ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ last night. I was trying to avoid watching yet another Florida vote crisis report that the other channels were offering. Too bad I saw you instead. This deadpan delivery would work if you actually said something funny once and awhile. I could almost hear the audience groan through my TV as they labored through yet another one of your ‘smarmy’ routines. Even Regis looked like he was getting sick of it. This is Regis Philbin for Chrissakes! Hey Jon, go back to what once made you funny. You didn’t take yourself too seriously and laughed at almost everything around you. Now you seem to think you’re too good for it. Get the fuck over yourself. ---

Probably on purpose. Though, I like Jon Stewart(am watching the daily show right now) and I say though Stephen Colbert would be funnier Jon Stewart is funny.🙂 (tonight the best political debate ever) ---

I really like Jon Stewart, so there’s the bias up front… I took it as a bit of subversive street-theater, sorta like what Letterman used to do before he got boring. But sadly, it’s probably much simpler: a bright, trenchant, funny guy who’s drugged himself on fame/ego or chemicals. Or both. Veb ---

I think Jon’s great! Craig Kilborne was a fool to leave, but Jon has made ‘The Daily Show’ better. ---

As it stands now, three people say I should lighten up because it could always be worse. O.K. One says I should lighten up for no other reason than simply lightening up. Check. Another says that if Jon’s been acting like an ass lately, and not too funny, it must be on purpose. Got it. Finally, rounding up the rear, a person ponders his use of drugs. Not the most glowing endorsement of Jon, but support for him nonetheless. I turn to the undecided out there who haven’t been swayed by the arguments made so far, watch ‘WWTBAM’ tonight and tell me what you think. Has Jon lost his edge? Or did Jon never have it to begin with? ---

Fine, I’ll take a stance. Jon Stewart is funny. I liked him as host of the Jon Stewart Show way back in '94 or '95, and I like him now. One of the few people on TV that can do both the scripted shit and the necessary improvisation equally well. ---

I think he’s funny too. And I was laughing out loud after tonight’s WWTBAM: “If you get this question wrong, Jon, the Alzheimer’s Foundation only gets $32,000 instead of $125,000.” “Yeah, but they’ll forget about it…” Has Jon lost his edge? Perhaps a bit, but that can be said for every comedian with a regular paycheck. Still, taking a piss out of Alzheimer’s patients on network TV is pretty ballsy. Especially while you’re attempting to raise funds for them. ---

Frankly, I thought that was the funniest line in the world “They’ll forget about it”. Priceless, and not really mean spirited… Remember, he was playing for their charity… Everyone should just lighten up and enjoy life, if you’re going to get pissed off about everything, we really don’t want you here… ---

I found his election coverage a refreshing change from the pap that has been inundating the news channels lately. If you don’t like his show, you don’t have to watch it. Maybe you should concentrate on the “Mr. Roger’s” shows before he pulls the pin, nice, touchy-feel good programming for kids who need a nap. Enjoy! ---

Alright, I have to admit the line about the Alzheimer’s was funny. You got me there. I guess if you keep trying, your bound to get a good one in once and a while. **tomas** - Right. If I don’t like it, I shouldn’t watch. A truly desperate argument if I’ve ever heard one. Mr. Rogers? At least he can make me smile, and I don’t feel ill after watching him for a half-hour. ---

In general, I think Jon is funny, but not hilarious. I only caught a little of his WWTBAM appearance. The Alzheimer’s line was good. When they asked him the question about the tennis players, I was hoping he would use his lifeline to call Craig Kilborn – now that would have been funny! And I agree, he does tend to fawn over his guests, even Adam Sandler (blech). ---

Last time I checked, comedy was very subjective, and what makes one person laugh may make another person want to jam a rabid weasel up the comedian’s ass. If you find him so unfunny now, just keep on flippin’ the channels. I loved Kilborn’s run on TDS, but now that he has his own show, I find him to be arrogant, obnoxious, and ultra-smarmy…sooooo I just switch to Conan after Letterman. See, it’s that easy! Has anyone read Stewart’s book? It’s pretty damn hilarious…especially the bit with the Hanson family Christmas letters and the tales of the time spent with the Kennedy family. ---

I think of Jon Stewart as “the user-friendly Ben Stiller.” Similar type, but not as scary. They should never let him interview celebs, though—it was painful enough to see him fawn over Bob Dole, but when Adam Sandler came on, Jon all but rolled over to have his tummy rubbed. He should stick to commentary, which he’s pretty good at (by the way, how much of the show does he actually write? Not a lot, I’ll wager).
