The smoke detector in my apartment is hooked into the wiring, so I can’t even take the batteries out to shut it up. To date, it has gone off when searing steak, searing a roast, frying fish, toasting bread, roasting asparagus and _boiling water_. I desperately want to learn how to fry chicken, but I don’t dare, as it is distinctly not a smoke-free process.
