Saw them both. Scorcese wins again! 😃 Really, perhaps it’s a matter of perspective. From where I sit, Mitchum played a small-time hood who knew a bit of law (more, apparently, then the lawyer he was fighting :rolleyes: ) while DeNiro, otoh, played a truly scary person who was made that way because of the wrong that Nolte committed (can’t remember the good guy’s name and I can’t be arsed to look it up at the IMDB). The later version is easily the superior version - no ifs, ands, or buts about it. ---

I’m not usually a big fan of Juliette Lewis, but the scene between her and DeNiro is terrific. She plays the gawky, gangly teenage girl perfectly - and you can see that she’s just enthralled. “Come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly…” ---

There’a another thread about this? Dammit. [sub]grumble[/sub] **plnnr** , did you know most of that scene was ad-libbed? Juliette Lewis didn’t know that DeNiro was going to kiss her, so her reaction was genuine. ---
