Iā€™m taking the long way from Minneapolis ā€“ driving down to Tierra del Fuego and taking a tramp steamer back up to Canadia and down on the St Lawrence, then winding my way through the Great Lakes. I should arrive around May 15th. Maybe in 2005 ā€¦ ---

Unless someone has some major problem with the Grafton, I plan to confirm our reservation there and cancel the provisional hold we have on Windy City. (Iā€™ll probably do this tomorrow afternoon, so speak now or forever hold your peace.) As **Gundy** says, The Grafton looks like a great site. We do not plan to do a package deal. (We perhaps could get one for about $42 a person. As that seems a bit rich to impose on the [one or two] nondrinkers in the group, and also because money collection is a hassle we want to avoid, we decided not to go that route.) Itā€™s not the cheapest bar in the world, but we think itā€™s worth it. Windy City would have been less expensive (as well as amazingly geographically desireable for **Gundy** and me), but WC is pretty much of a dive. The Brown Line has nearby stops. Getting Blue Line (Oā€™Hare) people there will be more complicated. Weā€™ll have to give that some more thought. (Maybe cabs or buses from the Irving stop?) ---

Sounds good to me! Actual food, a 5-minute drive from my apartment, and as a very, very light drinker, no requirement to shell out major bucks for items I wonā€™t consume. Whatā€™s the deal with the room? ---

Thereā€™s a back room with tables, couches and a fireplace that they can block off for us. Cute bartenders of both sexes, for those who care. There arenā€™t the typical bar accoutrements ā€“ darts & pool, fā€™rinstance ā€“ but itā€™s very conducive to conversation. Food reviews in Metromix are all good (and from what I saw, it looked pretty tasty.) Thereā€™s no fee for the room reservation, but of course weā€™d ask folks to chip in for the gratuity. ---

**Note to under-21 Dopers** : **Garfield** , being a smart little cookie, called The Grafton and verified with the owner that they were willing to provide wristbands to underage attendees to signify they arenā€™t drinking. So everyone can attend! ---
