> I don’t know if an injury or some catastrophe caused Babe Ruth to give up pitching, but if he’d not done so, he probably wouldn’t have become the legendary batter we remember his as now.

It was when he got traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees. The Red Sox saw him primarily as a pitcher while the Yankees saw him primarily as a batter.

> Hard to believe now, but Craig Kilborn seemed irreplaceable when he left _The Daily Show_ – certainly not by a former MTv veejay!

Minor Nitpick, Jon Stewart had a show on MTV but he was never a VJ.

Almost any mishaps with cooked food.

Damn - you stored the milk in a dirty container and now its spoiled. Wait a minute…this cheese thing is delicious.

You burnt those potatoes…oooh chips!

In cooking (barring a few exceptions)…its never a bug, its always a feature.

I know several “cooks” who could totally disabuse you of that quaint notion.

But for goofs by good cooks I agree completely. e.g. 2 days ago I got the proportions all wrong on an experimental pork loin stuffing. It came out very unlike my plan. But delicious nonetheless. So once I prove out the original plan I’ll have two variations.

The old joke is that the best way to make good soup is to start out trying to make good stew.

If you are talking about potato chips (as opposed to what the English call chips) then it wasn’t so much that they were burned as the chef just got pissed off at a picky customer who kept complaining that his fried potatoes were too thick. So the chef cut them as thin as he possibly could and threw a bunch of salt over them just to spite the customer. To everyone’s surprise, they ended up being pretty tasty.
