In any large group there’s going to be uptight people, easygoing people, grouchy people, slutty people, funny people, etc and they aren’t all going to like what the others have to say. I didn’t see anything really wrong in the other thread (except the chat room talk, that doesn’t go over well here as you had quickly pointed out to you) but hang out, post, and have fun. We don’t all think alike, so don’t go thinking cuz a handful of people have an initial negative reaction that we all feel the same way. I didn’t think anything in the other thread warranted a separate apology, but that’s just me. I don’t speak for everyone, but I do speak for my dog, since she can only bark. I don’t know why I bothered sharing that, but I’m bored at work and rambling now. Maybe I’ll go through my desk and speak for the stapler now. ---

Actually, most of the negative comments in your thread (that is still on the first page of the Forum as I respond, here) were later withdrawn or, at least, mitigated by their authors. I suspect that you’d have done better just posting this apology in that thread. Opening a new thread when the first is still active just might make you appear a bit _too_ youthfully exuberant (a.k.a. childish). You have not really committed any major sins to earn anyone’s hatred or scorn, so you don’t have a need to make a special apology. As noted in the other thread, your best bet would be to simply take your time, read a bit more of each of the Fora, and join in where you have appropriate contributions to make. People who are actually _liked_ around here are generally appreciated for their ability to provide knowledge, wit, solace, or (only in the **BBQ Pit** ) truly creative invective. Interacting with other posters is the best way to display your own knowledge, wit, or empathy. ---

**Keira** , I just checked out the other fora for you. I have placed all small, easily-swallowed objects into difficult-to-open contiainers. I have put little plactic plugs in all the electrical outlets. I have put little gates across the tops of all flights of stairs. I have turned the handles of the pots and skillets on the stove inward. I have taken all hazardous chemicials out from under the kitchen and bathroom sinks and placed them in locked cabinets out of reach. I have made sure there is no standilng water in any bathtub or sink. The swimming pool is covered. The Straight Dope Message Board is newbie-proofed. It’s safe for you to go post now. ---
