I’ve been an active member of another BB (Sunspot - Baltimore) since 1999. Unfortunately, the Administrators of that board are apparently not as enlightened as the ones running this board, and the total negativity of it all just did me in. I’ve grown weary of trying to stop the bullies. I’ve spent a little time this morning looking around your wonderful BB and see that many more procedures are in place to deal with trolls and others whose main goal in life is to harrass people. I like that. Also, from the few threads that I’ve read, it’s clear that there are some really decent people posting here. If you will have me, I’d like to become a member. PS In case you notice an identical post under “About this Message Board” - it’s a first timer’s disease. I thought I was in this forum and wasn’t! Sorry. ---

Thanks so much, everyone. It really does seem like a GREAT board. Has anyone ever ventured over to Sunspot? The layout isn’t bad, but geezy-peezy, some of the people!!! I have to admit, most are wonderful, but it only takes a couple to spoil it for everyone, ya know? Another long-time poster left when I did (we had both just had enough of the madness). They’re running threads right now, trying to lure us back, but you know what? I think I found a BETTER board. Thanks guys. The bag… Hmmmm … I had heard that was part of the initiation. But, nothing good comes without a price. 😉 ---

Thanks for the welcome, jjimm - Believe I know ALL ABOUT that addictive thing. I’ve been an addict since the old DOS days of USENET. After that, there was "TSN’ (The Sierra Network) – that was a blast! I just needed a new “drug”. Sunspot got to be too depressing! The nice people were always getting blasted by the morons and I just got tired of seeing it. I know it’s going to be difficult, getting to know all new people, and I’m sure it will take quite a while before people gets to know me and accept me, but I think it’s worth it. I’m not the most prolific poster, but I am steady! 🙂 ---

Welcome **stellar7**. I too, am a refugee. In my case, I came from Usenet (although I do still venture there once in a while). I was tired of almost every debate that I saw degenerating into a flame war consisting of mainly name calling and _ad hominem_ attacks. It’s refreshing, IMHO, to have a place like this where one can go and not only find out the answers to life’s little troubling questions, but to have a good, down-to-earth, honest debate. I’ve debated subjects here with people with whom I vehemently disagree, but nonetheless, hold my fellow disputants in the highest regard because they’ve shown themselves, on these boards, to be intelligent, honest, knowledgeable and, in most cases, willing to concede a point when wrong. That’s not to say that we don’t get the occasional pain-in-the-neck around here, but, on the whole, I can’t think of a better place to be on the web than here. Zev Steinhardt ---

Thanks Zev - I appreciate the welcome. And, you just spelled out EXACTLY why I left the other board!!! I spent about an hour looking at some posts and reading the rules here (which make sense). I was AMAZED that I didn’t see ONE flamer. I don’t expect there NEVER to be anyone of that sort, but it was SO refreshing to not see it every other post! I sometimes wonder what some of those people must be like in their “real” lives. So bitter, so eager to try to put someone else down! Never a kind word. I just don’t understand people like that.
