Everyday I go to work, I carry a black bag, the sort that is normally used for things like a laptop, files, etc. Normally, I have used mine for grad school related things. But, with grad school out for the next few months, I think we should examine what I carry to work every day. 1 Tom Clancy book 3 old Sports Illustrateds 1 book of crossword puzzles 2 file folders of stubs from household bills I have paid 17 pens and pencils 1 set of keys 3 computer games on CD Yup, quite the dedicated and hard working employee. I also feel urges to figure out a way to make a small bed in my office a la George Costanza. ---

I carry my red backpack. It has my address book (with my chequebook and bills), a cell phone that I almost never use, a Gerber multi-tool, and a quart of Yamalube in case the oil annunciator lights on the bike (I carry it even when I drive the Jeep because I can’t be bothered to take it out). I like my job. I really do. But it’s about 1,200 south of where I want to be. ---

I’ve got my “Office in a Bag”, (soon to be sold in major chains across North America). Inside the main compartment of this simulated leather bag you’ll find; an attractive zipper binder that can be filled with your choice of forms and reference materials and a Franklin day planner which you can use to organize your all too busy day. The outer pocket contains no less than twenty pens and several mechanical pencils as well as post it notes, envelopes, a stapler, paper clips, markers, and refills for the already mentioned pens. There is also a calculator and an electronic phone book. And there is still room to carry a lunch bag. I can only estimate it’s value at no less than $300.00 but through mass marketing I should be able to bring the cost down. ---

I started riding my bike to work so my backpack has a change of clothes, some deoderant, my lunch, a book and my change purse (with my ID and etc) and my checkbook. I used to carry my cleats and softball stuff in it so I had to wash it. There was about 10 lbs of field dirt in it! ---

Yes, my job is truly that boring. Or, more to the point, the surroundings are. But, never fear. That is what the master’s degree is designed to help ove me out of. Soon, I will have freedom, more money, and a desk big enough to build a king sized bed underneath. ---
