Having met Maastricht, yes.
Hello, Heloise, hope you and Coldie are well.
Having met Maastricht, yes.
Hello, Heloise, hope you and Coldie are well.
Yeah, and Heloise is seriously gorgeous as well.
Welcome back to the Boards! How’s the new job?
Jesus! Those are great. Tulips are my all-time favorite. is one of those pics of the one you said you can’t get here? And is it something a person could order direct from them?
I thought they passed a law banning those tulips in Holland, because of the potential of the virus to infect the other crop tulips.
Yeah, they are banned – but these are grown (under very, very carefully controlled circumstances) in the Hortus Bulborum, which is a historic garden with tulips dating back to the 1600s. Tulip geeks should definitely pay it a visit – very cool.
And Kalhoun – the ones I haven’t figured out how to get here are “The Mounties,” shown in the bouquet in my hotel room. The frustrating thing about tulips is that they’re impossible to photograph – the colors are so subtle, and it just doesn’t come across. These are mostly red, but it’s a red with undertones (and overtones) of pink and orange – gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. I can’t find anyone selling them in the States based on a quick search – will look more carefully, then, if necessary, talk to My Guy in Holland about the possibility of his finding me some.
Awesome, as those are my favorite colors in tulips. I’m in for a handful if you can get them.
Great pictures, twickster! Are these the tulips you saw?
I’m glad you had a good trip. If you ever come back, my offer to show you around my hometown still stands !

Yes, I totally want to come back to Holland, to see Maastricht (and Delft, and …)
And yup, those may definitely be the right tulips (though the picture is even worse than mine) – but I don’t want to go to Ohio to see them, I want to grow them in my yard!
Seems they can be ordered from this Dutch site.
Dude, he was in Haarlem not Harlem.
The correct questions to ask are:
Did you see the Appolo theater?
Any Globbetrotters?
Actually, I think that would be Appolotheater.
Thanks for the link, Maastricht – I’ll bookmark it. I’m not sure they’ll be able to export to the US (the inspection standards are intense), but I’ll definitely follow up.
:blush blush blush:
Thank you!
Unfortunately, the job has been delayed (again). The owner of the restaurant where I’ll be cheffing is having a lot of problems with his drunken, English, soon-to-be ex-partner and is dealing with all the legalities of getting rid of her. So, I have to wait a couple more weeks to get started there. That’s okay, though. We still haven’t completely unpacked from our move and there are tons of boxes to still get unpacked!
I could probably try to smuggle some of the tulips to you if you like! Well, not smuggle, but my Mom is coming to visit in about a month and at about 76 years old, can easily play Ms. Innocent “Oh, I can’t bring these in? I’m sooo sorry!” if she happened to get searched.
Whoa, using a Dopermom as a tulip mule – there’s a concept. I really don’t want to get into a situation with contraband tulips, though. (We’ve beaten the “staid middle-aged” meme to death already, no?) The USDA has incredibly strict rules about what you can bring into the country, and I just need to find some that are approved for export to the US, which shouldn’t be a big problem – as I said, I know people.
What kills me about these is that “we” (client company I work for indirectly, and my hosts during the recent trip) used to sell these, but they didn’t do well so they discontinued them. Grr.
