On the news last night they announced that a lawsuit with almost 100 plaintiffs has been filed.
sigh
I had started to read this thread, and got bored and tired of the personal attacks.
When I was a senior in High School, the police entered the Government class before mine, guns drawn. There, they arrested one student who had been placed at the scene of a shooting, and suspected of much more.
If this student had been caught out in the open, it could have been a persuit, or a shoot out, easily.
If the police, in the pursuit of the law, with good reason are forced to enter a school in Breach Mode, so be it. I’m sure nobody would get hurt in the vast majority of the situations. And as for the kids that got cuffed?
I’m raising my children to be respectful and polite to the police, to do anything they tell them to do, and if they think the cop did wrong to tell another adult and I’ll get myself a lawyer… but until then, the cops hold ALL the cards.
And, for the record, when attending Jr. High in Montana, I was informed by the vice-principal that according to State Law, I had few, if any rights, as I understood them. The school acting in loco parentis gives them a lot of leeway…
If there was any danger of a shootout with this guy, then the last place they should be picking him up is a classroom.
At the very least, couldn’t they just get him called to the principal’s office?
A child in school has the same fundamental rights as any citizen of the United States; if this kind of police action would be unacceptable in your place of work or your place of worship or the local amusement park then it’s unacceptable in a school.
Oddly enough, this sort of take down is done on a daily basis, all over the country. Cops would do this at my work, or a place of worship, no problem. But because they did it at a school, folks are all butthurt.
Personally, I say more power to them. Many of the schools these days are just as dangerous as the streets. Do whatever needs to be done to make it safe.
And TeaElle, a child legally has almost no “rights” to speak of. From a legal standpoint, in many instances, a child is considered almost property.
Hate to do it in the Pit, but…
CITE?
The principal gets canned.

huh. headline reads “Principal quits”, body of text confirms he ‘resigned’ the position, but the school district is still keeping him on
That’s a strong suggestion that he was “asked” to resign (or else), in my mind, wring. Principals don’t leave their posts unless they are compelled to or lured by retirement or promotion.
I know. However, the phrase “canned” is not representative of what’s true, since
A. he ‘resigned’ the position vs. being fired
and more importantly (to me at least)
B. he’s still employed by the district
That’s scary. We can only hope he’s learned not to pull this kind of shit in the future.
