# Highest Ranking Government Marriage

Back in the day, as everyone knows, kings would cement alliances through inter-marriage of their kin. These days, you don’t see that anymore (probably due in part to a lack of true monarchs) but are there any modern occurances of a ranking government official marrying an official from another government? Not to cement alliances but even the Brazilian Transportation Minister\* falling madly in love with the Korean Secretary of Education\*.

Only one I can think of is rather local to me. [My congressman is married](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Weller#Marriage_to_Zury_R.C3.ADos_Montt) to a congresswoman from Guatemala. Any higher up the chain of command than that?

\*Office names made up for example.

There are still a few monarchs left that are married to foreign royalty. Queen Elizabeth II is married to a Greco-Danish prince and Juan Carlos of Spain is married to a Greco-Danish princess.
