Hmm, it called for 12 ounces of chicken, some sausage, celery stalks, 2 bell peppers, an onion, some seasonings and a splish of hot sauce. Crock pot away for a few hours, and add rice before serving.

I make a crockpot jambalaya similar to that **scout** but I know it wasn’t me who posted it cause I’ve never posted it. It’s super simple and really yummy! I usually serve it over steamed rice, with a nice green salad on the side and some good hard crusty bread. First time ACBG had it he thought I’d been at it all day and felt all special til I told him I did it in the crock pot. If I had had any sense whatsoever I would have carried on about how difficult it was and how exhausted I am and coulda gotten all kinds of special treatment. I need to remember that. 😃

If I’m hip to the right jive, the new Pratchett comes out next month. And it’s one of the kid books (like The Amazing Maurice, Wee Free Men, and Hat Full of Sky). _And_ it’s a Tiffany Aching book, so you know what that means… (Ach! Crivens!)

Hmmm, That doesn’t sound like mine.
When I get home tonight I’ll cut and paste mine iff you’re interested.

Good. It’ll be _I Shall Wear Midnight_, then. Cool. We’ll get it at work, and I can read it.

Dance class tonight. _Killer_ dance class. I should eat something now, and then clean the bathroom. i won’t have energy after class.

Update on the construction: they’re dragging big pieces of rail around. It makes a horrible loud screechy sound. They were doing it at 2 am for added listening pleasure or something, and now they’re doing it at 3 in the afternoon. It was loud. It is loud. I can’t wait until they’re done.

\*\*Ashes \*\*(can’t figure out the little superscript 2 to make it Ashes squared), I like the coin-flipping idea. It may just come to that, although I remembered I have a book called _Making Hard Decisions_ at home and thought maybe I should consult that first. Whoda thunk that they’d have a book just for such a situation?

And as to the yelling, she’s old and we just all accept that that’s who she is. She yells at everybody occasionally, even the even-older guy who, to me, seems beyond reproach. I mean what happened to respect your elders? Anyway, it’s just one of those things where we just go “Yes, M. Sorry, M.” and then go roll our eyes to someone else in the office. Every office needs to have a few “unique personalities.”

OK, you can pilgramage here - I agree a crusade would be a bit much. But don’t expect fancy victuals or any of that. Hugs are nice, but, frankly, they ain’t deserving of a day slaving in the kitchen.

Just so’s you know…

And now the weather - it’s supposed to creep into the upper 80s today, and by Sunday, it’ll plummet to a high in the mid 50s. My poor plants will be so confused!! Plus there’s some rain coming. Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t do my screens yet. I’ll probably take care of them after I get back from surgery duty.

And that’s all I got. Carry on.

You vicious tease! I think I hate you now, **swampy**. Okay, maybe not. Maybe I like you even more, what with that annoying integrity thing you’ve got going. So anyway, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell meeeeeeeeeee! Wheedling this secret is gonna require extra effort, as I fear my boobage will fail (utterly \<snerk\>) to dazzle you.

Is she cute and curmudgeonly with her yelling, **taxi**? Otherwise, off with her head!

Today at lunch we made fun of the boss’s tight pants. Elvis impressions were involved.

I’m going shopping for coq au vin ingredients today because I’m a sucker for anything Tyler on How to Boil Water suggests. This talk of jambalaya intrigues me though…

**Homebrew** , thanks for the info on how to correctly code \*\*Ashes \*\* [sup]2[/sup].

\*\*Ashes \*\* [sup]2[/sup], it depends on whether you’re on the receiving end of the yelling if it’s cute and curmudgeonly. When it’s one of the brokers receiving a tongue lashing, it’s mildly amusing. When it’s one of the partners, it’s downright funny. When it’s me… not so much. But I’m getting better at shrugging it off. It only takes maybe an hour now instead of all day the way it used to. But I also know that she’s damn good at her job and that when she retires someday this office is just going to fall apart.

Oh well, your dreams. Good as gospel! Tyler Florence is _gay_!

Also, while I’ve got you here **Homebrew** , do you know of a good recipe and instructions (for rank beginners) for ginger beer? I remember that you usually brew up stuff with alky-hol, but maybe you know a good book or site. I don’t know enough to trust the ones I’ve found and heck if I know where Dad put his. It’s summer, time for gingerbeer and home made ice cream!

Many homebrew supply stores also have concentrate or other ingredients for making ginger and root beer. It’s a fairly simple process and they should have instructions there.

**Ashes[sup]2[/sup]**, there’s nothing to wheedle out of **Swampy** , because he knows not what’s in store. That’s why it’s a surprise.

You’re always welcome to dazzle me with your boobelage, for I hold the secret.

For **Ashes[sup]2[/sup]**:

The thing to remember about jambalaya is that the recipe varies, **a lot**.
It’s basically 2 or more meat things with rice and tomatoes, and whatever.
The last time I made jambalaya it went like this:
I cut up a big ol’ yellow onion, a bell pepper, and some garlic and put that in my biggest pot with a little oil over medium heat to begin sauteeing. I then quickly cut up 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts into bite sized chunks and when the onion was translucent, I chucked in the chicken.
When the chicken was pretty much cooked I put in a big can of diced tomatoes and 2 cans of chicken broth. I seasoned with salt, pepper, about 1 tsp of chili powder, and some fresh rosemary (I like rosemary, it ain’t no ways mandatory)
While that was heating up I put on a smaller pot of water for my shrimp (1 pound) with about 2 tsp Old Bay powder and another tsp chili powder. When it boiled, I put in the shrimp and cooked til pink. When the shrimp were done, I held a colander over the jambalaya pot and poured the shrimps into the colander, adding most of the shrimp water to the jambalaya. I didn’t pour in the ‘dregs’ however. _At this point you can add water depending on how loose you want your jambalaya._
When the jambalaya comes up to a boil, (you may have to turn up the heat a bit), put in 1 or 2 cups of rice, depending on how thick you want your jambalaya. I put in about 1 1/2 cups.
While that was cooking, I peeled and cleaned the shrimp and set them aside.
When the rice was all plumped up and nice I turned off the heat and stirred in the shrimps.

Some people add cayenne pepper or hot sauce. I serve hot sauce on the side for those who want it.

All quantities and ingredients are extremely variable. I’ve been making jambalaya for over 30 years and have made it with chicken, turkey, sausages, ham, pork, shrimp, fish, scallops, even squid.
The recipe just keeps on changin’. It’s all good.

**Homebrew** , gasp, horrors! Gingerbeer from concentrate; my father would spin in his grave if we hadn’t cremated him. Aw well, it was worth a try. Someday I’m going to find a recipe for that stuff, or make a terrible mess trying it on my own.

So **swampy** was \*fooling \* me, **vunderbob**? I should have wheedled at the source it seems, so much for sneakyness. Okay then, all this astronaut talk, you’re headed for space, right? No boobage till you tell (no those are not either my hands behind my back with the fingers crossed).

Yay, jambalaya recipe from **Bumba**! I have a sneaking suspicion I know what the big meal for next week is going to be, given I saw some lovely shrimp at the grocery the other day. Do you leave the heads on? The feet have gotta go though, no matter what, because Food with a face is bad enough without little legs waving around, pitifully. It’s just a rule I have.
