Just saw [this](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj-x9ygQEGA) video. Apparently there is one like this for A-Ha’s “Take on Me” out there as well. ---

Apparently, there are dozens of these out there. Just yesterday I discovered this was a “thing” – I watched a couple of them, but so far _Total Eclipse Of The Heart_ is easily the best. ---

I’m not sure it can be beaten–I think it’s the acme of the genre. Of course, now I have it stuck in my head, and though it’s completely hilarious, I’m not sure I want to hear it that often. ---

First mentioned in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=517450). ---

> [@ArchiveGuy](#): > > First mentioned in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=517450). D’OH! Sorry about that. I suppose I should have done a search first. **Hal** - When I first saw the “Total Eclipse of the Heart” literal video it was imbeded in a webpage so I had no idea there were many others out there. I looked on YouTube and you are right, this is far more popular than I first thought. The Journey one is pretty good, but this one still seems the best to me so far. Maybe because I saw it first? ---

I also like the one for _Penny Lane_ that was done by the same person who did _Total Eclipse_. John appears to be saying “bite me” to the cameraman. Random cop. ---

“Total Eclipse” is by far the best one yet, not least because it had such material to work with. I had forgotten just how ridiculous that video was. “Take On Me” is great, too. ---

Oh my good lord that was the ACTUAL video???!? Who in their right mind thought that was a good idea in the first place? Also: Oh god that was funny. ---

You bastards. I watched this at work, and now I have to explain to my coworkers why I can’t stop laughing. Hairless chests. 😃 ---

I found it on VideoSift and showed it to my wife and we both laughed ourselves sick. It’s miles ahead of any other the other “Literal Lyrics” videos. Hard to believe that this was in constant rotation on MTV in the day. Other videos ripe for this treatment: [ul] [li][Elton John - I’m Still Standing](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2ZpKpSURxQ)[/li][li][Duran Duran - Wild Boys](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCWyYOOS8FQ)[/li][li]Any other Duran Duran video[/li][/ul] ---

Hard to believe that this was in constant rotation on MTV in the day. I dunno. I literally snerked when I heard “Somebody’s gonna get an ass full of this pipe wrench!” in the A-Ha video. 😃 ---

I saw this this weekend when a friend linked me to it and I’ve shown it to some other friends, who have all loved it as well. “What the effing crap, that angel just felt me up” had me crying from laughter. ---

Wonderful videos! A great afternoon spent chasing them around the web… some are definitely better than others. I love the one done to Take Me On. But that Bonnie Tyler video just screams out for a parody set of lyrics!! ---

I hadn’t heard of these, I’m always way behind with these things. I’m a huge fan of _Take on Me_ - it’s my favorite video - it was well worth watching the literal version. Thanks! [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/hilarious-literal-video-of-total-eclipse-of-the-heart/498699.md?page=2)
