I don’t think that half of Trump’s supporters fall into the deplorable category. I think it’s more like a third. But since they lean toward loud and obnoxious they seem like more. ---

I’m not too concerned with Clinton’s health. Tim Kaine is more than fit to succeed her. Isn’t it good in hindsight that she didn’t go for an “exciting” pick like Castro? ---

I’m not thrilled with Hillary’s pneumonia thing, but I think Kaine (liked and trusted more than Hillary) takes a lot of the edge off of it, as \*\*adaher \*\*says. What is really irking me is the coverage of the “basket of deplorables” remark. Hillary Clinton once again illustrated Michael Kinsley’s definition of a “gaffe” in Washington DC: “when a politician inadvertently tells the truth”. The tut-tutting media should be ashamed. [Jamelle Bouie in Slate](http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/09/trump_s_basket_of_deplorables_hillary_clinton_was_right.html) and [Ta-Nehisi Coates in The Atlantic](http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/09/they-are-all-breitbart-now/499511/) both did a great job taking them down for this faux “scandal” coverage. Highly recommended reading. I just hope some of the herd of CW-peddlers in the news media are paying attention. ---

They are running an ad that replays her comments. I think they are taking a risk doing that. It’s not obvious to me how it helps them. ETA: To clarify, obviously it enrages those who support him (even though they could easily assume it’s not them individually she is talking about). But he is behind. I’m unclear on what undecided voter, or Hillary supporter, hears comments over and over about how “deplorable” and toxic many Trump voters are being identified as, and decides to go join his coalition out of solidarity. Not sure human nature or social psychology work that way. ---

We got a guy here, just said, couple days ago, that if an Iranian naval vessel came close to one of our ships, and some body made a rude gesture, he might open fire. Pause to consider that gem. Did Romney say _anything_ like that? His “47%” remark was overly candid, really, he was pandering to his audience. But its not anything like “I might kill some Iranian sailors if they flip me off!” Who _says_ things like that? Who _hears_ something like that and thinks “Well, you know, Hillary said some pretty mean stuff about some knuckle-walking trogs. So, really, both sides do it.”? The signpost isn’t ahead, we can’t even see it in the rear view mirror any more. ---

Trump’s statement was tasteless, insulting, and _completely and utterly wrong_.
