[/QUOTE] Yes, she may have this memory in her head and not be intentionally deceiving anyone; that would mean she has a false memory. This could be due to organic brain disease, hallucination from some other cause, schizophrenia, etc. None are qualities I want in a president. ---

[/QUOTE] One of the things that trial lawyers learn is that eyewitness testimony tends not to be very reliable. If you ask five eyewittnesses to an event what happened, you get five different answers. This isn’t because the people involved are lying, and it’s not because they’re crazy. It’s just that memory tends to not be a very reliable thing. We conflate things, forget details, invent details that aren’t there, maximize our role in things. I know I’ve done it, and I’m sure you have as well. So while this could be from any of the causes you mentioned, it could just be her misremembering. ---

But to “misremember” something so dramatic? How often has she had to actively run away while being shot at? It would be like if I misremembered flying to the moon. ---

I can understand misremembering the number of assailants or whether the guy was wearing a Cubs or a White Sox cap, but misremembering a welcoming ceremony where you shook a little girl’s hand as having to run for fear of sniper fire seems a bit odd. ---

April 6 1996, to be exact. I still remember being greeted by a horde of screaming Japanese schoolgirls who were lobbing their sopping panties at me and then swooning: the cops had to break it up with tear gas and batons in the end, and I was hustled out of a back exit and into an unmarked bulletproof limo for my own protection, and even then a few diehards were clinging to to the bumper and squealing until one of the cops popped out of the roof hatch and tasered them off. They had to prise off the fingernails with a cold chisel later. No, wait. That wasn’t it. But there was a really cute girl on the train into Namba who gave me a beautiful smile. ---

Apparently, she has made more than one reference to her Bosnia trip while speaking publicly. I’d say Olbermann’s minions have missed the mark and left their guy looking a little silly. ---
