My grandmother tells me that in the pre-Spandex and other stretchy fibers day, that’s exactly how pregnancy pants (sorry, “slacks”) looked. They’d have a waistband that went over the bump and a hole cut out for your belly. You’d have to wear a long shirt over the hole, of course. But then again, a lady wouldn’t be seen out of the house wearing slacks \*or \*“in a delicate condition”, so it was strictly for cleaning-your-house wear.

Except it looks like he has tan lines around it. So this would be something he’s worn before, for an extended time, outdoors.
