**Monty** , believe me, I wasn’t thinking of anyone on this Board. I was (and am) concerned that there are people in her church who would say she shouldn’t have left her first husband and who are trying to make her feel guilty for doing so. I’m also whole-heartedly with you on asking her to consider her own behaviour in light of the religion all three of us (and many others around here) are trying to practice. CJ ---

Thanks for the kind words, **CJHowrth**. but they’re completely undeserved. I don’t like to hammer at people who have revealed vulnerability, and I’d much rather err on the side of mercy than judgement. Sure, **H4E** royally pisses me off,but it seems to me that she has been the victim of bad teaching by a cult-like fundie church, which are exactly the sort of predatory brainwashers that exploit folks like **H4E**. It seems to me that, deepdown, **H4E** is a good person who is doing the best she can by her lights. What she needs is people to set her a good example of mercy and forgiveness, for that, as I understand it, is the crux of the Christian message. **Joe\_Cool** and **JerseyDiamiond** , on the other hand, are just plain vicious, unpleasant people who can excuse their lack of charity and awful behavior by the ol’ “I’m not perfect, just forgiven” BS. They are EXACTLY what St. Paul referred to as “sounding brass and clanging cymbals” in 1 Corinthians 13, for although they may have faith to move mountains, they completely lack love for anyone here at the Dope. (And if I were an Inquisitor and this were the reign of Mary Tudor, I’d have their butts at the stake for espousing the [Antinomian](http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01564b.htm) heresy, but that’s just me.) ---

**Kirkland** , the man beat her and threatened to rape her sister. Since today seems to be my day to be absolutist, I stand by my opinion that no human being on the face of the earth, however vile, including her ex-husband, deserves that. I’ve read what she’s said about gays, Mormons, etc. and I’ve spent a lot of time countering that view. Today I also told her that I consider her actions to be sinful. By inflicting deliberate cruelty on another human being, not to mention by saying that she, in effect, deserves death, you’re doing just as badly. I think you got the match and the bonfire backwards. **Kirk** , if you only realized how little you help the cause you claim to fight for when you pull shit like that. Those of us who are trying to foster some kind of atmosphere of education and understanding between the gay folk and the religious conservatives on here don’t particularly appreciate the damage you’re doing that attempt. Not to mention that those of us whom you haven’t completely alienated yet hate to see you succumbing to the same poison you claim to hate so much from the other side.
