The [Library of Congress online archive](http://lcweb2.loc.gov/pp/pphome.html) is good for this sort of thing as well.

Could there be another discussion sometime about why today’s world and architecture is so damn ugly compared to that of our not so distant past. I find it hard to look at photos like this sometimes.

Yeah…what the hell happened to the romance?

Maybe we’re just too smart now…we know the naked nut-cuttin’ megalomania it takes to build anything in a place like this, and the stinkin’ sweaty existences most have to live amidst it all.

Crazy doomed giant flying machines don’t shimmer in the skies any more either, nor are the streets filled with bulbous beetling fenders and preposterous hats.

Pictures like this make me think New York is farther away from America than ever.
