"History Detectives" on PBS

I think one problem the show has is that many, many people on this board have enough expertise in these topics, or in researching similar things, that we watch the show and can’t help but find the whole thing a little ho-hum. Or catch ouselves yelling at the TV things like, “Would you let go of that being a feminist artifact? Look at the legs and the sultry look the halfback is giving the viewer! And what’s this shit about her being so busy yet ‘finding the time’ to cut jigsaw puzzles? Do you think a manicurist could support herself AND her aunt without a side job? She wasn’t making those for CHARITY, you know! Kindly remove you 21st century sensibilities from the research!” Or something like that.

On the other hand, my kids love it. It’s at the level of an average TV viewer. But Wes Cowan sounded a bit wierd not giving prices on the stuff, except the Washington picture. I’ve just been watching Antiques Roadshow too much, I guess.

Actually, I thought the episode with the forgery, the “trumpet” and the kidnapper’s house was the best one yet. Maybe I’m just getting used to it.

At this point I think I can declare that the show is not as good as I had hoped it would be, but not as bad as I had feared.
