_Deacon Blues_ - I swear, on one of the XM stations that my husband likes, this seems to come up every.single.time I’m in the car with him. And I hate it!!! \*Moondance \*is another. Maybe it’s not so much that I hate the songs, but that I’m sick of hearing them if I spend any amount of time in the car. No, I think I hate them. ---

I have a rule that whenever anyone asks to try out one of my guitars they are forbidden from playing Stairway or Hotel California. I actually have guitars that those songs have never been played on…ever. Nirvana’s _Smells Like Teen Spirit_ and everything from AC/DC’s _Back in Black_ could also be retired. I have a friend who is a radio programmer for a station that has a all-request show. When I confronted him about the same songs being played over and over he looked at me dead serious and says “Sparky, there are hundreds of different people who call every day and request those same songs over and over” FYI, _Jet Airliner_ is the currently playing song … ---

Mony Mony by Billy Idol, nothing worse than a bunch of 30/40 something drunken females shouting out the x rated additions and giggling about like they’re still 18. Rock You Like A Hurricane by the Scorpions. At any dive bar in the world, there’s a drunk asshole that’ll play air guitar on a pool cue when this song comes on the jukebox. God Bless The USA-Lee Greenwood. It’s getting close to the 4th of July. ---

I’ve been a huge fan of UB40 for years, seen them in concert many times, yada yada and the one song I’ll always use as a break to go to the bathroom or get a drink is **Red Red Wine.**. I vaguely remember liking it when it first came out but for the last 30 years it’s about the only UB song you ever hear on the radio. Not only is it not anywhere close to being one of their better songs, it’s been so overplayed that it actually makes me angry at the band when I hear it. So I do my best not to hear it. Ditto the Police’s **Every Breath You Take.**. Never really liked it to start with and it is the only Police song I can think of that I’ll turn off as soon as I hear it. ---

I must be listening to very different radio stations and spotify streams than anyone else here because I cannot recall the last time I heard a single one of the songs mentioned in this thread. I thought all these songs had already disappeared. (Except “Fame” by David Bowie, which came up a lot just around the time he died.) Anything by Green Day (do they count as an ‘oldie’ act yet?) I could never hear again and be happy. “Total Eclipse of the Heart” came bubbling back up into mainstream pop culture a few years ago. That’s a relic that could’ve stayed buried under a landfill full of VHS tapes if you ask me. ---

Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Man, I have always hated that song from the day it was released. Curse my computer-like memory - I haven’t listened to that song past the first five seconds in 40 years, but I still have it stuck in my head. And curse you, Jim Steinman, for what you have wrought. Also, Fool In The Rain. It’s not technically a bad song, and I think it was fine when the album first came out, but my college radio stations played it every hour (or so it seemed) for four years. It has exceeded play limits by a huge margin. I never want to hear it again, I didn’t even rip it into iTunes. ---
