I first posted an example of one in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=450638&page=2&pp=50&highlight=sony+blu-ray), but since then, I keep running into them. If you don’t know the film, [Downfall](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363163/) is the recent movie about Hitler’s final days in the bunker, with Bruno Ganz turning in a riveting performance as Adolf himself. But after the brilliant [Blu-Ray mashup](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywWfmRdOmJ0), I’ve seen a very funny one on [and a less successful one on [url=[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dl4faCpJE&feature=related](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8dl4faCpJE&feature=related)]automobiles](]the Dallas Cowboys[/url). Look like some pinhead working for the film company is issuing takedown notices to YouTube, and is completely unclear on the concept. These mash-ups increase interest in the original film and do not, in any way, detract from sales of the original film. ---

Exactly what is the point of these mash-ups? Do the people that make them think they’re clever in some way? _Downfall_ was a great movie, though. Very affecting. Some of the actors were dead ringers; you’d think Goebbels had gotten a weekend pass from Hell to be in the movie. ---

Here’s my contribution to the genre: [Silent Downfall](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkvRldrxdWA) I can attest that these parodies resulted in at least one DVD sale. I’d never heard of the film until I started seeing these videos and I thought it looked interesting. I was right. ---

I’ve seen some funny ones, but it’s pretty hard concentrating on the subtitles when you can understand the audio. 🙂 Also: the original film is well worth watching. ---

They’re funny due to the juxtaposition of such a serious and dramatic performance with subtitles of a ridiculous nature. A sense of humor is a prerequisite to any of them. I found the one about [Hitler getting banned from Xbox Live](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfkDxF2kn1I) was a pretty funny one too, but maybe because it was the first one I watched. ---

I came across this meme only a few weeks ago and I think it’s brilliant; I have seen a dozen or so of them and have yet to come across one which didn’t amuse me at least a little. Anyone know who who started the whole thing? He or she definitely deserves fifteen minutes of fame for a great idea.
