Well, as a historian, I personally say you have to take claims like this with a grain of salt, and try not to let your own biases color what you state about historical figures.

Most historians would probably look at it and scream, “CITE!!!”

I don’t have a problem with talking about people in the past who were possibly homosexual. That’s part of history. What I do mind is when people see one little thing, (like say, people referring in diaries to their “dearest bosom friend” or whatever), and saying, “That’s it! He’s gay!” as if it were an absolute fact, without looking at other possible explanations.

And this doesn’t just pertain to sexuality-it could be about their ancestry, (like when people claim Cleopatra was black.)

You have to look at ALL the facts, and then make a careful analysis.

Really, history is almost a science, at times.
