Dr Zasio is the only one we actually know by name. We call the brunette lady “Dr. Dimples”.

TLC had a marathon of their Hoarders knock-off last night and it was a pale imitation. I think because they completely gloss over the clean-up part. If I can’t see someone’s hoard laid out on tarps in the front lawn while some lady insists on digging through a garbage bag full of urine-soaked phone books to “see what’s good in there”, why bother?

Also, that was a hellalotta rats.

I couldn’t even watch the promos for the rat episode. I wouldn’t say that I have a rat phobia per se - I can probably handle a rat alone - but a lot of rats together? Oh hells no. I blame my auntie for allowing me to watch Willard as a young child. (And holy hell? that remake with Crispin Glover? there was a scene in the trailer with an elevator opening and rats pouring out from around him that still haunts my nightmares.)

No offense to rat enthusiasts, I understand they are delightful animals as pets. I personally would have to be heavily medicated.

I haven’t watched the whole episode yet, those rats remind me of that movie where the rats take over the subway and eat everybody. I like rats in small quantities.

Yes, I prefer “Hoarders”, over the TLC copy.

It’s very good incentive to clean up, throw out, give away.

I felt for the rat guy. I liked him.

What’s sad about the rat guy is, he claims that having so many pet rats insures him against grief, on the theory that if one rat dies, he still has 999 (or 1,999 or 2,222 or whatever the final total was) left. Except, we saw him break down because one rat died. And we saw him break down again at the thought of nursing baby rats being separated from their mothers. So he’s actually made it worse, with 2,222 potential sources of grief.

Meanwhile, Lisa is why I don’t watch Intervention. Seemed like the few episodes I saw were always like that: the subject stonewalling and having to be coaxed out like a five-year-old. No thanks.

> The worst was the guy with all the rabbits, and his spineless wife/girlfriend. He clearly had some kind of mental disorder, but he was infuriating. I can’t believe the owners of the house didn’t start the eviction process immediately.

Who else is going to pay rent on a house destroyed by an infestation of rabbits? Evicting the rabbit asshole guy means the house sits vacant until you gut and rehab it. They probably don’t have the money to rebuild the house, and so this way at least they get their monthly rent. And since the house is probably on the verge of needing a complete teardown, it’s not like the renters can damage the value of the house by much more than they already have.

I thought they could donate the house to the fire department…I’ve seen that happen a few times in this state when a house needed to be demolished. One case was a house that actually had some local historic value; the burning was featured on the news.

This happened with my husband’s paternal grandmother’s home.

I need to Pit the Dope for getting me hooked on this show. I want to pull my eyes away, but no go. And, in the immortal words of (I think) **MeanOldLady** “these people make my smacking hand tingle.”

That horrid old harridan with the abused animals gave me a near-terminal case of Tingling Smacker Hand. It’s one thing to live in squalor yourself. Subjecting animals to it is quite another. If anyone ever needed to be kicked around a yard and then locked in a cage too small to turn around in for a couple of weeks…

My wife and I will do the rat one and the season finale tonight. It’s good for me - I can’t wait to do some heavy-duty cleaning on Sunday after a couple of episodes.

Regards,
Shodan

Hanna! I just saw this episode. What a crazy bitch, and what a fucked up family. Makes me wish the law allowed animals to be immediately rescued and hoarders locked up somewhere while their houses were cleared out.

(Excuse me while I clean the cat box.)

Imagine a psychiatrist/manager of a mental health residential treatment center, scouring the country, looking for hoarders with which to fill his facility to the brim . . .
