> Christopher “Partypooper Sefishpants” Tolkien _hated_ the Jackson movies, and would likely not sign off on any further work by him after “The Hobbit” is filmed.

I still genuinely wonder how Professor Tolkien himself would have felt about Jackson’s LOTR movies (he could be pretty critical, and I’m sure he wouldn’t have liked everything about them, but would he have been glad to see his creation come to life, or disgusted), and how he’d feel about something like this Hobbit project.
Worst-case scenario: Radagast becomes this decade’s Jar-Jar.

I always wanted me some more Radagast. Saruman said he was stupid. It would be wonderful if he were smart in a way that Saruman would never understand.

I’m still hoping Jackson will punk the world with a shot-by-shot remake of the Rankin-Bass cartoon.

I have never understood this attitude. Its a movie. Its a completely different medium. If you want the book word for word go read the book again. I loved the movies. I do question the reason for some of the changes. I loved the books. I know recognize the the writing is a bit stiff. I have no problem enjoying the movies on their own merits. He is a fan that refuses to have any enjoyment from the work. It just seems weird to me.

Ahem…
The three movies will not just cover “the Hobbit” novel.

They won’t start with a knock on Bilbo’s door and end with him coming home. They are not all literally “the Hobbit,” so quit assuming they’re stretching it out by adding Legolas beefcake shots! They’re otherwise vague. I see no conceptual problem with showing what Gandalf is doing, it just depends on execution.

And screw Tom Bombadil.

Can one of them be a talking cat? Sauron can be voiced by the guy who does Spongebob.

Oh, and Radagast was cool. I think it’s not that he is dull, but that he doesn’t care about civilization. He wants to spend time with his animal friends, Beary the Bear, Eagley the Eagle, and Wargy the Warg.

One on of the LOTR DVD commentaries, Peter Jackson toyed with the idea of making a TV series about Ents who solve crimes. (Very slowly.)

It’s all just another interpretation/translation of the various texts making up the \*Red Book of Westmarch

Well from what I can gather about his opinions on the illustrations provided, he probably would have had mixed reactions to the films. Likely he would have taken umbrage with the scripting, along with the language delivery. OTOH, he certainly seemed to enjoy all the illustrations provided to him, even the ones he deemed “bad”. I think that if he could be persuaded to allow the films, he would have enjoyed them as a sort of homage.

I seem to recall that characters broke out in song in the written books (LoTR). I wonder if he would be dissapointed that Jackson didn’t include much of that in the films. 🙂

Was there singing in The Hobbit?

The Hobbit is a wonderful book for kids with a lot of humor. They want to do a kind of The Terminator from it but that will not be The hobbit anymore.
Still it can be a good adventure movie.
