For the third straight round I picked the Oilers to lose in 6. You know what? I’ve learned my lesson.
Roloson kept them in it tonight. Anaheim was the better team, goalies excluded.
But they’re really in a hole now. They haven’t won in Edmonton since 1999.
I learned mine too, so I stopped making picks.
Why hinder a team by weighing them down with my prediction.
OK, I give up. Who’s going to win the Cup? The '71 Bruins, who will to a man come out of retirement and beat the remaining teams in a brief round-robin tournament. At this point, that’s my best guess, and it has about as much chance of being right as anything else I could predict.
That said, if Carolina doesn’t tie up the series tonight, I’m just leaving the table and cashing in whatever chips I have left.
With the way the playoffs have been going, it’s anybodys guess. Edmonton is playing great, and they look like they have Anaheim beaten after winning two on their turf. Then again, they’ve been playing a lot of tough hockey lately and that takes a toll. Anaheim hasn’t looked like themselves. They could turn the series around if they win next game.
The east is even worse. I don’t think anyone figured Buffalo and Carolina would even make the playoffs much less the conference finals. Both are young teams playing in front of young goaltenders. The series could go either way, though a Buffalo win would make things easier for them.
What? You wanted a real answer? Not gonna happen. I’m tired of cursing teams.
All I can say about the EDM-ANA series is that Roloson has out-Bryzgolaved Bryzgolav. He even helped his team’s offense with those two assists…hats off to him! Now, what will it take for the Ducks to beat the Oilers? Probably win a string of 1-0 games…a goaltender’s delight.
Team is doing fine; survived the 3rd period insanity.
There it was, the Ducks seemed to be finished and then one, two, three… and then FOUR goals! Thank goodness for that fluke of a Pisani goal off the faceoff, otherwise we’d be in overtime right now.
Regardless, its 3-0 and a sweep is near. Edmonton area Canadian Tire stores report that sales of brooms have skyrocketed!
What a wild game that was! Ther first period opens with about a zillion penalties and two fights - at one point, there were 8 players in the penalty box. Then the game ends in a wild shootout, and the Ducks almost come back from 4-0. 8 goals in the third period.
It was nerve wracking. But the Oilers pulled it out! I have to say, though, that if there had been five more minutes on the clock, the Ducks would have won. The Oilers were coming apart towards the end.
Well, I was right for 2 periods…but still, Roloson won that game outright with a few timely saves towards the end of the game, regardless of the score. The Ducks made some mental errors that cost them the game as well, especially on Pisani’s gamewinner…you can’t let him waltz to the slot untouched like that and expect Bryzgalov (or any goalie for that matter) to stone him. Ack…I don’t know if scoring 4 goals in the period is a plus for the Ducks going into game 4, or losing the game due to the numerous mistakes made and penalties taken that would put them in a deeper funk. I guess what it will come down to is what McTavish will do with his roster in regards to fatigue, by changing out a few players for fresher legs…he even admitted that Anaheim’s speed and endurance has him worried about the next game as well as last night’s game.
How’s my team doing?
Upgraded from Grave to Critical condition…but still in ICU.
I really liked their instensity and speed, but the marginal/stupid penalties almost cost them the game. Anaheim has solved Roloson and have their confidence back, but can they string 3 more together? HMMMMMmmmmmm…I’m not sure, but if they keep doing stupid stuff that puts EDM on the power play, they will lose on of those games. Play smart, play hard, play fast and get an early lead…and take advantage of the Oiler’s fatigue…then they will have a chance.
I wouldn’t give up hope on Anaheim yet. It’s an almost impossible thing to come back from 0-3, but I think this situation could see it. Edmonton must be tired, and Anaheim did demonstrate over the season that it is the better team. Could be interesting.
Now watch them lose tomorrow.
I hate to burst your bubble, but winning game 4 after being down 0-3 really doesn’t mean much. I learned that the hard way last round.
Holy Roly! What a goalie!
Amazing! I didn’t think my Oilers would make the playoffs, let alone make it to the finals. Even if they don’t win another game, it’s been a great ride.
Give the MVP to Roloson already, win or lose.
Now, I hope Buffalo and Carolina beat the crap out of each other for 3 more games.
Hey Shibb, If we can win 4 more…Can I have your old sig line?
.
Not my bubble. I was just trying to give Yeticus the old “don’t get discouraged” talk. Didn’t work, of course, or at least Anaheim didn’t come through on their end.
This has been one weird playoff season. How many teams have we seen that looked unbeatable one round, only to get skunked the next? Strange days, indeed.
Strange indeed. Anaheim did what they could, even pulled the goalie with about 3 minutes left in the game for a 6 on 3 power play…and failed. Had Roloson dead to rights on a couple of rebounds but squeezed their sticks too hard on the follow up shots…congrats to Edmonton for an excellent series, I will be rooting for them in the finals.
Canes Win!!!
TERRIFIC! The Anchorage Aces just won the Kelly Cup for the first time ever. In five! Go Aces!
Oh rats. I really l liked Buffalo. Still, they sat back and let Carolina have way too much control in the offensive zone and looked really tired in the closing minutes. Too many injuries to the defense must’ve worn them down. Congrats to Carolina.
To be honest, I’m kinda blah about the finals matchup. Don’t really have strong feelings either way for Carolina or Edmonton.
After what happened after the last time Carolina went to the finals, maybe they should’ve hoped to lose the series.
And of course, if Edmonton does win the Stanley Cup, I think we’re going to find some WMDs in Canada. That’ll teach you to take our trophy.
d+r
“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
Thus, I will root for Carolina in the finals, since Edmonton squished the Sharks. Of course, I would be remiss if I did not quote myself, from way back in post #30:
Now if only I’d gotten anything else right!
Roloson… out for series… I think I’m gonna be sick.
