Hockey! How's your team doin'?

So all the series that started on Friday are 1-1. All the games that started Saturday are 2-0. Huh.

Bite me, you Regionalist. Geographist. Latitudinist. Guess there isn’t a good word for people who are north/south prejudiced.

Purists? :stuck_out_tongue:

By that standard only Chicago, Washington and the NY Giants should ever win the Super Bowl. The Angels, Marlins, Braves, etc should never win the World Series*. Only Uruguay and Brazil should ever win the World Cup.

Maybe we should go back to the original six teams and get rid of everyone else? Good luck finding any games on TV south of the border, though.
*I’ll give you the Marlins and throw in the Panthers, Wayne Huizenga sucks.
Of course, the beautiful irony of some Detroit fan bitching about is that a guy from Detroit owns the Lightning, and the Pistons.

Ha ha! :: points at LeastOriginalEver and laughs, a la Nelson ::

There aren’t enough professional sports leagues to counteract the singularity of suck that is the Detroit Lions organization.

Dude. Look at the Lions. We’re never gonna win the Super Bowl anyways.

Look. If you’re going to start making things up, I’m not going to speak to you anymore.

Yeah, but then Chicago would still be in the NHL, and I think their fans have been through enough.

Take yer logic somewhere else ya pinko. :stuck_out_tongue:

On topic, I have this dream that one of these years, I won’t have to deal with any of these friggin’ 10 pm start canadian road trips. At least I’ll get to watch Tampa/Ottowa. No traps there.

Fucking cunt-punching cock-biting fucks! Jesus fucking Christ , WHAT THE FUCK?!

Okay, so seven years go by, seven humilating years where the Rangers spend like Steinbrenner and fail to make the most inclusive playoffs in sports. Seven fucking years. But I try to hang in there. I watch the first month or so of each season, until the inevitable implosion reaches comical porportions.

Then comes the lockout, and the salary cap. Thank God Almighty, we’ve been delivered to the promised land of thoughtful spending. Right out of the gate Rangers look great, leading the division all season long.

And this travesty is what I’m rewarded with? Hey, yeah, the Giants blew chunks in the playoffs as well, so my skin has been thickened. But that was only one game. This seven game series shit is cruel and unusual punishment for us Rangers fans.

Seriously, this is some fucked up shit right here. Can we forfeit the series and start looking to next year now? Pretty please?

The good news is, Ottawa totally smoked Tampa, 8-4. The bad news is, we were terrible defensively tonight. Way too many chances for Tampa – if not for Emery, they might have come back after we took the 5-1 lead. We need to buckle down defensively if we want to go far in these playoffs.

Ellis, I told you not to look.

Well, it was an interesting first period Detroit/Edmonton. I thought Detroit looked much better at picking apart the trap and getting quality scoring chances. They just looked like garbage defensively. With the players that they have, there’s no reason to be giving away the puck like they’ve been. And as much of a fan of Legace as I am, he need to go. He’s going down too early, playing too far out of the net, and he should have had Smyths wraparound.

If anyone else is watching this game, let me know what you thought of the two penalties to Holmstrom at the end of the first. It looked like Jason Smith interferred with Holmstrom by essentially running a pick and preventing Holmstrom from reaching the puck carrier. Then Rolosson runs into Holmstrom from behind resulting in a penalty to both of them. I’m just not seeing where the penalties are.

na, the sens just need to keep scoring a bazillion goals. 8-4 games are more fun to watch than 8-0 games anyway.

and lecavalier? what were you thinking man? chara could have ended you. luckily he held off on the finishing blow.

anyway, as i don’t have a favourite team - i’m just a general fan of the game - i’ll offer my $0.02 on the current playoff situation:

ott / tb - sens win. six games. will be fun to watch, and there might not be a faster series the rest of the playoffs

car / mon - canes have had a good season, but on the backs of weak divisional opponents, and montreal has been on a good run of late. the first two games of the series are a good indication that speed trumps size come playoffs in “the new nhl™” montreal, five games.

nj / nyr - the new york jagrs overachieved this year, and it’s catching up to them. devils have been on a hell of a tear - what, 13, 14 wins in a row now? jersey sweeps.

buf / phi - again, speed trumps size in “the new nhl™” look for philly pick up one game after the dismantling in game 2, to save a little face, but it’s over in five.

det / edm - if there’s a major first round upset, it will be this series. detroit won the presidents trophy, but on the backs of the weakest division in the league; they played three of the weakest six teams in the league a total of 24 times this year. not for a minute suggesting they aren’t a good team, just not as good as their regular season record lets on. i’m gonna flip a coin on wings in six vs. oil in seven… and my coin landed wings in six.

dal / col - avs up two games, but the 2nd period of last game showed it’s by no means over. i expect a long series, but if theodore can stay on his game, the avs will take it in six.

cal / ana - a faster, more talented offence of the ducks, vs the best goalie in the league, and sutter team that can grind anyone into playing their game. i think calgary can pull this out in seven games, but they’ll have to play better than they have in the first two.

nas / sj - the sharks have the rocket richard & art ross trophy winners in thornton & cheechoo, and likely the hart for thornton as well. at 38 - 15 - 7 since acquiring thornton (incl. playoffs,) i don’t think it matters that san jose is a one-line team with a good goalie; not to count nashville out - they are fast & talented team. i think they lack the experience to go anywhere this year though. look for a six game sharks win in this series.

Go Sharkies! (especially 'cause they’re up 2-1 now)

Marleau, Michalek, Bernier is a darn good second line despite the fact that two of them are rookies. I love watching the Sharks, I hope they stick around a while.

Not that it’ll ever happen, but a Montreal / Colorado final, pitting Theodore vs. Huet, would be wonderfully sweet.

So, how bout them Flames, eh? And Edmonton doesn’t suck, either. My remorseless bastard husband wants to see an all-Alberta final, so he can see me cry.

Well, Kiprusoff played much better last night, that’s for sure…while the Ducks thought the 3rd period was for organizing their retirement portfolio. Way to piss away home ice advantage and momentum.

I’m pretty sure Michalek was there during the last season, or at least the last playoffs, so he’s not really a rookie. He’s still a young player, though, and Bernier’s been primo since he settled into the lineup. That goal Mason gave up to Cheechoo last night might have been the series back-breaker. He was the big question going into the series, and he’s got to be second guessing himself after letting that one in. Sharks in five, six max. And I’m liking their future…

The less said about the Flyers, the better. I just hope they defend the home ice and take their lumps on the road. I hate it when my teams get eliminated on home ice.

So far so good on my upset call on Stars/Avs. I just felt there was something fishy about Dallas all season. Though it’s not over yet.

Didn’t see Montreal spanking Carolina. The 'canes could be in trouble, though again, not over yet.

Edmonton looked pretty good. This may be that point where Detroit starts panicking. If the Oilers win the next game, then it’s over.

The Rangers suck big dongs. What a bunch of weaklings.

Kiprusoff takes over the next couple of games, Calgary advances easily.

Saw some nice plays in that Tampa/Ottawa series. Too bad it won’t last much longer. I think Ottawa’s in charge.

Overall, I think we’re all having a pretty good time here. Isn’t it nice to have games instead of nothing?

You know how it’s all fun and games till someone loses an eye? Well, Saku Koivu was just dragged off to the hospital to look at the bleeding eyeball that resulted from a stick to the face. For which no penalty was called.

Then the Habs get a 4-minute penalty for a stick to someone’s face later, after the big wuss who got hit pokes at his lip like mad to draw a drop of blood out of it.

I am pissed.

But for all that, the Canadiens played a hell of a game.

I just hope the hit to Koivu wasn’t as bad as it looked. On the replay afterwards, it looked like the blood was actually coming from the eye, not from a cut nearby.

THE AVS ROCK!!

That is all. Carry on.

Well, that leaves little doubt as to the outcome of last nights game. I was wondering. Curse these late games.

Detroit is down 2-1 in the series. That makes tonight a must win. Yzerman is unlikely to play tonight. The Wings have to win it anyways. Unlike Chelios, Yzerman isn’t going to be around forever and they’ll have to win a cup without him eventually. Zetterberg is likely to be the next captain. If Yzerman is out tonight, it’s up to him to lead the way.

Wings fans are going to hate me for saying it, but it’s time to pull Legace and bring in Osgood. I love the guy, but he’s given up some lousy back breaking goals that he should have had. If the wings get down 3-1 in the series, it won’t matter who’s in net. If they are going to make the change, it has to be tonight.

I’m gonna cross my fingers and hope they can pull one out. If they can remember what defense looks like and keep the offense going from Tuesday, it should be a corker of a game. If not, then I’ll have the glow from the Ottawa/Tampa game to carry me. That’s a good series.

No such thing as too late for a hockey playoff game.
