The Washington Capitals finally woke up and realised these games count. Going strictly by talent, the Caps should be wiping the ice with the Isles but the game isn’t played that way. Nice win, though. ---

More recently, we had a coworker use ‘Seasonal Affect Disorder’ to escape Chicago in January for a month. Vezina quality goalies don’t grow on trees. Maybe his teammates are all singing Kumbaya in the locker room, but I doubt it. ---

You shift was short a guy for a day or two. The Bruins do have other goalies. And with due respect, being angry at someone for quitting a restaurant job is irrational. It is unpleasant when a useful co-worker quits. I have seen many fine co-workers resign, retire, or seek employment elsewhere, and in many cases it made my job a less enjoyable one, but I wasn’t angry at them. They have to take care of themselves. If any of my former co-workers were angry at me for quitting those jobs, I would find that truly puzzling, and would think them immature and silly. You quit your restaurant job. You said those days are “long behind” you. Was it wrong for you to quit? Is it wrong for employees to use their sick or vacation time, as they are entitled to do? I am quite certain Rask’s teammates aren’t singing happily about this. It hurts their chances. But that’s different from being pissed off at someone for making a decision not to work. It hurt my last employer when the general manager retired early to go take vacations and golf. He was still entitled to do that and no sane person was angry at him. It’s a job. A business arrangement. Nothing more. It’s not personal. ---

Tampa Bay beat Columbus in five games. The first and last went to overtime. That made me curious as to the longest series. I found longest games, I found most overtime games in a series - five, three different times - but didn’t have any luck with longest total playing time for a series. Any idea? ---

It appears that the longest series was Boston -New York Rangers in 1939. Seven game series with two triple overtime games and two single overtime games. ---

Woo hoo! Islanders make it to round 2. That’s gotta be one of the biggest upsets of these playoffs. Maybe if the Blues lose? Bringing Ross Johnston against the dirty players of the Caps (Wilson, Dillon) helped keep this game less violent. Plus, an early power play goal stopped the Caps from goading the Isles the whole time, like they did in Game 4. Next round will be tough, whoever they end up playing. ---

I was a little nervous after the Flames were up 3-0 before the Stars had a shot but wow - > the first time in Stanley Cup playoff history that a team trailed by three goals and then led by four in the same game. > Gurianov added a fourth goal in the third period, becoming the second rookie in NHL history to record four goals in a playoff game. In addition to Gurianov having a big game, so did Miro the hero. The guy arguably could have won both the Calder and the Norris last year is showing that he will be a Norris contender for a long time. BTW, he is tied for second in playoff scoring. ---

The smaller, wimpier Canucks not only eliminate St. Louis in six but _trounce_ them in the final game 6-2. 🙂 An example of speed and offensive skill overtaking brawn. Las Vegas will be tough, too. ---
