Hold onto your butts Mid-Atlantic Dopers. Here comes Isabel!!

Neidhart, I remember you for two things: you were the only male at Zette’s recent area visit, and your name has nothing to do with former pro wrestler Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.

The power’s back on. Thanks, Who_me? and all of your coworkers.

Back of the house crushed
Pick up truck crushed
Not expecting power for 7-10 days
No telephone
No water
I stink to high heaven
I’m alive

That’s the important thing, plnnr. Your insurance will take care of the house and truck, and if I’m not mistaken, hotel costs above what your normal housing would cost you. Call your broker.

Here in Richmond (from which a few others hail including, if I’m not mistaken, plnnr), there are trees and power lines down all over the place. We lost power around 6pm on Thursday and got it back around 6pm on Saturday…and were very very lucky to do so. Our next door neighbor and the people beyond him still don’t have power, nor do the folks across the street in both directions. The neighbor has a generator, and we’ve offered to run an extention cord to his house.

We’re all still supposed to boil our drinking water, and there have been (poorly-publicized) places to get free drinking water and dry ice for folks whose power is still kaput.

Tark moved our cars across the street and they were completely undamaged. Nothing fell on our house. We removed ourselves, our kids, and our 'fridged and frozen goods to my sister’s on Friday morning. Her subdivision apparently has a deal with the Devil, as they didn’t lose power at all.

We had one tree come down - a tree which was already dying and which we hated anyhow.

Here it is.

You will notice that the mailbox is still standing.

My grandma and grandpa came to stay with my aunt here in Richmond. They live right on an inlet in Poquoson, which you may have seen on CNN. It was BAD. Here’s an article. They haven’t been back to their house yet, and I’m worried…it’s a beautiful little house, they’ve lived there for over 50 years, and I scared that it’s been destroyed. We don’t know anything yet.

Some friends of ours live in Gloucester, an inlet or two west of Poquoson. They’ve been told not to expect power until mid-October.

So…everyone’s alive that I know. We’re more comfortable than we deserve to be. And GingerOfTheNorth should be happy, as her stench will be indistinguishable from the smells of rot and mold which will be pervasive.

Bricker household has been without power since Thursday afternoon. The helpful interactive phone voice system at Dominion Power took our telephone number and replied that we are on the list to be fixed today, by 11:00 PM.

Of course, since the recording told us that on Sunday, and on Saturday it calimed we’d be fixed by 9:00 PM, I have lost faith in its powers to fortell the future with any accuracy.
