Yep, it’s still here. Enough people freaked out when they tried to shut down Hotel Roanoke and the Grandin Theatre that we managed to save both; I can only imagine what would happen if the Tavern was in trouble. There’d be a million-dollar GoFundMe up by 3PM, and it’d hit its goal 30 minutes after the bars let out.
Other cities have killer pizza, or tasty BBQ, or fresh seafood. We have whatever the hell a Cheesy Western is (it’s a cheeseburger with a fried egg, onions, pickles and relish), and for better or worse we’re damned proud of it.
Good to hear from the old hometown. Seriously, folks, Google “Texas Tavern” and have a look. I would not be the tiniest bit surprised to walk in one night and catch Tom Waits sittin’ on the third stool in (and by the way, they used to - probably still do - line up four deep behind EACH STOOL THAT WAS STILL IN USE! But very civilly; nobody ever rushed anybody. It wouldn’t be the Thing To Do).
