Last year my dad asked me to organise a holiday for him (with me) to Vietnam. I thought he was taking the piss, but turned out he was serious. So here we are, my dad, me, and my grandkids trying to navigate Vietnam. Fuck. My dad (actually my step dad) is 89. I hadn’t seen him in 4 yrs. In that time his physical and mental faculties have deteriorated markedly. It’s bloody challenging to say the least!!! BUT, we’ve lasted this long, 4 more nights before flying home, and nobody is going home in a body bag thus far. Reckon I’m winning :D:D: ---

Best of luck on finishing out the trip! I recently had a distantly related experience where my parents were far less capable of walking any significant disctance than they had let on. So they did what they could and took a taxi home early every day. So don’t overexert yourself to accommodate. He got himself into the trip, he can get himself through it while you enjoy yourself! ---

Your dad is exactly the same age as my grandparents were when they couldn’t make it to my wedding because they couldn’t hack the flight between Sydney and Melbourne. That preceding sentence sounds a wee bit bitter and twisted no matter how much I reword it, but I really don’t mean it that way (these were my grandparents on the sane side of the family…).
