Ciff Robertson, who was blacklisted for reporting a crime.

He reported that Columbia executive David Begelman forged his signature on a check, and pressed charges, which led to Begelman’s departure and conviction of embezzlement. Robertson found it hard to get work in Hollywood for several years because of it.

I have to question this. Cimino wasn’t put into “movie jail” for some personal feud. His career ended for what seem like valid reasons. His movies went wildly over their budget and then failed to sell tickets. The studio executives who refused to hire him were doing so for sound business reasons.

And you agree with his banishment to movie jail for that?

I take it back. Apparently he did alright even though he was child rapist and a fugitive. He should have been put in movie movie-jail.

It does seem like several people have missed the “agree with” part of the question…

I thought someone would. 🙂 That’s why I’m prepared. From the OP:

> [@](#):
>

Going by that, Cimino qualifies for this thread. Without the OP’s qualification, I’d be inclined to agree with you.

Ingrid Bergman had some issue with an illicit affair and out-of-wedlock children. With Rossellini. I think it was petty, what I remember of it.
There were all those actors, writers and others caught up in the ‘House on Anti American activities’ hearings.

I would have supported putting Hitchcock in “movie jail” due to his declining talent. It seems his name kept him going despite a genuine decline in talent after Psycho. He had improved and improved up to that point, then just roller-coastered downwards.

Some people would include The Birds, but I think that is a clear indicator he was losing “it”.

The real reason Chaplin fell out favor in Hollywood was for[having leftist political sympathies during the McCarthy era](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Chaplin#1939%E2%80%931952:_Controversies_and_fading_popularity). The U.S. government cited this as the reason why they tried to bar his re-entry in the country in 1952 (even though it turned out they had no actual supporting evidence).

The REAL real reason Chaplin fell out favor in Hollywood was the death of silent cinema.

Krupe’s 8th Law states: No one does anything for just one reason.

He defiantly made two very popular “silent” films well into the sound era and rereleased an older film re-edited with narration as late as 1942 plus his five sound films. It was, as they say, a combination of things, but this really wasn’t part of it. If anything, he probably could have kept making silent films if he wanted to.

Here’s Box Office Mojo’s [list](http://www.boxofficemojo.com/people/chart/?view=Actor&id=katherineheigl.htm) of her movie earnings.

Take out stuff where she’s in a big cast or just doing voice work and it’s been pretty bad for the last several years. Maybe time for a _Zyzzyx Road II_.

Throw in a couple failed TV series for good measure.

Her mother/manager is the stage mom from hell. KH has taken on several of her mother’s traits. The word is out on her.

It depends on what you mean by petty. She was married and had a 15 year old daughter. She had an affair with Roberto Rossellini and abandoned her daughter. She didn’t even see her daughter for almost 10 years. That didn’t sit well with fans. She was in Hollywood jail for a few years but made films in Europe. It wasn’t that long before she was back making Hollywood movies.

One thing I didn’t realize until much later in my life was the woman I saw as a broadcaster on my local news was Ingrid Bergman’s daughter, Pia Lindström.

The claims Chaplin was a pro-Communist subversive were unsubstantiated bullshit and would’ve easily collapsed had they been challenged. A younger Chaplin would’ve fought against these charges and won but not an older Chaplin. He was now in his 60s and had more than enough money to keep him financially secure. So, he basically said “Fuck this” and spent the last 25 years of his life on a large estate in Switzerland.

So he was only guilty of having sex with many young girls.

One of those things I didn’t realize at the time and recently found out, the actress that played Rob Stark’s wife is Charlie Chaplin’s granddaughter. She doesn’t hide the fact, the name Oona Chaplin is a dead giveaway. I never bothered to look up her name.
