Yesterday, my wife gave birth to a beautiful daughter, **Janelle Marie** at 5:14 P.M. at our home. Everything went of splendidly and everyone is in the pink of health. I wasn’t going to post this, but I just had to crow about it! 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃🆒 ---

…went _off_ dangit! I reckon I ought to make this an “Ask Me About Homebirth” thread, to make it a bit more useful… I can tell you that it’s definately a plus to be at home the whole time instead of going to the hospital and going through the whole ::shudder:: hospital experience. ---

No pics yet; waiting for digital cameras to get off their high horse, price-wise. Home birth was excellent. As the son of a doctor, I approached it with consternation, but I’ve come around since. Why go to a hospital if you’re not sick? It’s like going to a feed lot. We used a midwife, which, unfortunately, is alegal in Virginia. My father helped midwives attain legal status in Arkansas. Hopefully, that will happen in VA sometime. However, VA still has representatives who do stuff like introduce legislation requiring any woman who has a miscarriage to notify police. WTF? Luckily, it didn’t go forward. What a bunch of assholes! Old white men should butt right the fuck out of issues like this. ---

Sorry about my mini-rant. It’s just that things are set up against women who want to give birth naturally, at home. My insurance only pays for births in the hospital with a doctor. People looked at me like :dubious: or :eek: or 😕 when I told them we were having the baby at home, when I told them my wife isn’t having an epidural or Pitocin (or “scheduling” the delivery"). Crap, we’ve only been doing it that way for about 50-60 years; folks have been homebirthing naturally since, well at least thousands of years ago! Anyway, back to the light-hearted good cheer! Update: Baby and mom are doing great. I took Janelle to the Pediatrician and everything’s good, although her BANDS was a little high, which means I have to drive her to a lab to get blood drawn tonight in this so-called blizzard. Maybe. I might can do it in the morning. One of the things about homebirth is that all those little tests that you normally get done in the hospital, you have to go to the Dr./Lab and get them done. No biggie, except when the forecast calls for a few inches of snow. Anyway, **AngelicGemma** was asking about pics, and a friend came over and took a one today, which I’ve posted [here](http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/maupins/my_photos). Hopefully, that works. ---
