_I_ have noticed the phenomenon the OP is talking about. I suspect itā€™s not as widespread as he thinks, but we canā€™t really know unless we find a thread to disagree about (the virgin/slut one?). But _sometimes_ people are compelled to share knowledge which really distracts from answering the question. For instance if youā€™re discussing if 0.999ā€¦=1 dragging in infitessimals, incomplete fields, nonstandard notation and so forth trying to find a way in which it is true is fun, and instructive, but just misleading unless you start by saying ā€œIn the notation used by everyone at this time, it is. The reason is [ā€¦]. However, thereā€™s some other situations you might find interesting [link] [link]ā€ ---

I have formulated a theory about this thread: The SDMB software is glitching and barfing up random info instead of **askeptic** ā€™s posts. Or perhaps not, since those posts arenā€™t aggressively incoherent. Hmmm, does anyone else think that **askeptic** is an AI?
