> When Adult Swim aired Futurama, the two times the phrase “Sweet/Holy Zombie jesus!” was used, they censored “Jesus”. Fox had no problem with this when it aired originally. (Other references to Jesus were left untouched - it’s just “Zombie Jesus” that causes the problem. Gee, you don’t think the fact that Adult Swim is headquartered in Georgia is more than a coincidence, do you?)

Cartoon Network is owned by Turner Broadcasting; IME, Turner stations tend to be more sensitive about blasphemy than other forms of profane language – at least in the past, you’d even have “damn” censored on some of their channels.

> But when A&E reruns shows like _Criminal Minds_ which originally aired on CBS, they censor words like “bitch” and “ass”.

A&E’s pretty inconsistent. Last year in the Bates Motel thread, some people kept complaining about how A&E was censoring various swears, while other people, myself included, claimed there was no such censorship going on and the swears were intact. Turned out we were all right, it just depended on what time of day you were watching the show. I usually watched a later airing than people complaining of the censoring, but one weekend I caught a part of a rerun earlier in the day and indeed they were dropping out the swears.

> Letterman is taped, so they have time to remove offensive words before it is aired. With live shows, you don’t have that much warning. There isn’t much that SNL can do about it except bleep it out for the Mountain and Pacific time zones on tape delay.

This is sufficiently obvious that I didn’t feel the need to mention it.

I’ve heard a shit or three on broadcast tv. They were always 1) after 10 pm, B) immediately preceded by the words “bull” or “horse”, and III) NEVER referring directly to the stuff you wouldn’t want to pitch your tent over at the annual Boy Scout Jamboree.

Since I’m at an age where I don’t stay up late, even on Saturdays, anymore, I’d tape the show and fast-forward through opening credits. So I don’t even know who most of these people are unless their names were mentioned during the show.
