No one has officially stated it, it’s just been something of a guess / suspicion by several of the participants in this thread (myself included). It’s possible that “Flaco” is a real “straight shooter” and a good, decent, hard-working, honest guy. But several of us think that’s the less likely of the two possibilities (the other being that he’s probably something of a thug and likely involved in gangs / drug trafficking). Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the known bad guys got deaded / perforated, I just don’t think I’ll be urging the mayor to give Flaco the key to the city anytime soon, at least not until I learn a bit more about his background.

Rumor is that they were Movie Bad Guys, who, like stormtroopers, have the ability to shoot twenty rounds without hitting anything.

But they also might have been Millenial Gamers who paused to shoot off-screen, expecting that to reload their gun.

I’ve read of two carrying “large rifles”. Were the other three armed? They may have been a driver and lookouts.

> You might not think it was, or not want it to be, a big accomplishment. I think that surviving a firefight against five attackers is a Grand Accomplishment.

I still say this was pretty average shooting at best.

As for surviving, I’ve shot literally thousands of rounds without being killed. I guess I must be an Olympic God of Shooting. Or perhaps more realistically, my ability to shoot a gun has nothing to do with whether I get shot by a gun. My ability to shoot determines whether or not the other guy gets shot. And his ability to shoot will determine whether or not I get shot. So Flaco didn’t survive because he’s a good shooter. He survived because the other five guys were incredibly bad shooters.

It’s always a bad idea to join in on a gunfight if you don’t have a gun.

Shooting the other guys first has a tendency to impair their ability to shoot you.

If he had done that, I’d agree that he was a phenomenal shooter.

But that’s not what happened. Flaco didn’t shoot his attackers first. Everyone was shooting.

This wasn’t a day at the practice range, or some violent video game, where everyone gets dozens of electronic lives in order to make it thru a maze. This was an actual firefight. Bullets flying, people dying. Are you saying you’ve fired thousands of rounds while people were shooting at you? And you’re still alive? In that case - You Be Da Man.

In this particular incident, the muzzle flashes where real. The sonic booms of the bullets, and gases, leaving the muzzle will exceed 140 dB. I imagine it’s going to be pretty hectic for all parties involved. The home owner was able to hit all five of his targets. I assume that all five were moving targets. That’s some pretty good shootin’.

I’ve been in a gun range next to gangbangers who couldn’t reliably hit a silhouette target 10’ in front of them.

Still somewhat amazing that none of them hit him in all that shooting.

I’ve read that even trained cops have difficulty shooting a target only even a few yards away from them when under sudden duress. The home-invaders were probably better mentally prepared than the homeowner at first but then didn’t expect their intended victim to be spraying AK-47 fire back in their direction.

Is it being considered that in the confusion some of the ‘gangbangers’ actually shot each other?

You can say it’s good shooting a hundred times. But repeating it isn’t going to make it true.

Soldiers in combat are expected to hit other soldiers who are fifty yards away. These guys were having a firefight inside a room. They were shooting at each other from a few feet away.

I wouldn’t recommend you go to any rifle range and brag that you consider yourself a good shooter because you can hit a target that’s five feet away.

I dunno what you want to call it, but 5-0 in armed combat is pretty damn good SOMETHING!

When I first heard the story, I was imagining the homeowner having “home field advantage”, picking the invaders off as they made their way through the house.

My guess is that AK guy got the drop on them. The invaders were all bunched up together, their weapons pointing in every direction, and he emptied a mag into them before they knew what hit them. Maybe a couple of the wounded got some shots off, but it’s not surprising they didn’t hit anything.

Close quarters infantry combat is 10 parts aim, 40 parts positioning and 50 parts shooting first.

I’m going by what was in the article. It said that the homeowner fired off “dozens of shots” and that several of the criminals each shot “multiple” times. A neighbor heard the shooting going on from inside his house and had time to go outside before it was finished.

Unless you’re an insanely good shot and manage to hit your attacker’s brain stem, killing them first won’t stop them from killing you. The time it takes to die from gunshot wounds is a lot longer than the time it takes to return fire.

It’s not so much that one has to score an incapacitating hit. One’s attackers usually want to shit their pants and run away when they’re getting shot at more than they want to stand in there, take hits, and return accurate fire.
