Homeless Veterans Shelter next door to your house. OK with you or not?

A homeless group home for men bought a house next door to me several years ago. We were a little worried when this happened, but they have turned out to be very good neighbors - quiet, keep the lawn mowed, no police presence, or anything. As these folks replaced a bunch of real low-lifes, they have been a very pleasant surprise. The cops would visit the previous bunch on almost a weekly basis - and this occasionally included swat teams with flash-bangs, full military gear, etc. Provided lots of excitement, but got old rather quickly.

So we are very happy with the new neighbors.

I lived next door to a group home. I suggest making friends with them early, like with a basket of cookies, and then they will look after you. Mostly good people.

Now, a big shelter full of transients who are there day to day? No thanks.
