Why didn’t Audrey Meadows and Joyce Randolph play Alice and Trixie when the Gleason show later went big and in color?

I’m not certain, but I believe Jackie Gleason wanted younger actresses for the role. That and most likely the original actresses would have asked for a lot of money.
