From the Chairman: “thanks for everyone’s hard work during the year…blah blah blah…you can all leave today at 12 noon”. We usually get an early mark on Christmas Eve, but nobody was quite sure whether we’d get the same thing today, given that it’s only 23 December.

But we have! 🙂

Not that anyone was actually going to do any work today anyway. There a champagne breakfasts going on all over the office.

I’d like to work where you work.

At my office, no champagne anythings. Also, no email. But I’m not going in tomorrow anyway – I’ll finish my Christmas shopping and go see a movie maybe. But, unlike _some people_, I will have to use a vacation day to do it.

I just found out that we can all leave at 2:00 today. And I’m really pissed about it.

I usually work the 11-7 shift, but because the rep who covers 8-4 is out, I was asked to cover the earlier hours. “Hey, cool”, I thought. “I’ll get out at 4 instead of 7…be home nice and early”. Turns out what would’ve been a three-hour workday had I stuck to my normal shift is now a six-hour day, longer than those coming in at 9 or 10.

Bastards. At least I’m off all of next week.

I’m outta here in 15 minutes. And I won’t be back until 1/3/06! I usually come in at 6:30, while everyone usually gets in at 7:30, so I usually get stuck doing an extra hour of work. Today I played it smart, I came in an hour late, but I did bring bagels.

Our company got out at 1 pm on the 23rd, but I ended up being the one who had to stay until 5 pm. I suppose it could be much worse.

I’m really trying to feel for ewe here, **Hal Briston** , but since I’m working a 10 hour night shift on Christmas Eve and a 12 hour night shift on Christmas Day, it’s…tough.

On the other hand, I like the idea of living in a world where we occasionally set aside time with our loved ones to feed the hungry, visit those in prison, and comfort the dying-- and if it takes actual work on my part to help those who do that, I’m perfectly willing.

Plus, hey! Time and a half!

I did a 12 hour shift last night and I’m doing another 8 tonight. There’s absolutely nothing going on (knock on wood); we’re sitting down here struggling against the urge to get on the radio and dispatch an officer to an accident/leave the scene, reporting party states her grandma got run over by a reindeer.

But we’ve got cookies and junk. So we’re stuffing our faces and playing games on the internet. Happy Yule, y’all!
