… but in three of those eight videos there are men dressed up as women. The transvestitism in German comedy is almost as strong as in English comedy. ---

I managed to find a copy of [Hurz](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAx0P-8n5K4), just because seeing it mentioned tickled me. One of Hape Kerkelings moments of sheer and utter brilliance. I don’t think there’s an original video for it, but when I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of Foyer des Arts’ song ‘Komm in den Garten’… I could only find this self-proclaimed ‘[irrwitzige Inszenierung](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDp9XVph2LU)’ (‘absurd production’) online, unfortunately. ---

[This song](http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7311989762753306865#) was really really really popular in Bulgaria when I was living there from 2006 to 2008. The video isn’t really inherently terrible, it’s just so…tacky. Plus the song sucks. BTW, I am informed that the title means “You Have The Greatest Ass in the World”. And yet some Americans still think Europeans are somehow more cultured and sophisticated than themselves. Ha! ---

I mean there are some wild distortions and stereotypes there about Germans, yet there is still a kernal of comedic truth. In hindsight, I guess it’s the “Austin Powers” treatment for Germans even before there was an Austin Powers treatment for Brits. I guess it was probably inspired by the pretentious Berlin postmodern art scene of the 80’s and 90’s… well, not just Berlin- there were equal movements in every major European city- supoose you could change a few things and accents in that skit and it could just as easily be the French “sproquets”. Although, I would genuinely like to know some of his inspiration and sources for that, I’m sure much of it sprung from the stereotypes of the art scene and (Sado) Masochism of movies like Cabaret ('72), but I’m also sure much of it was just absurdist art from the mind of Michael Myers and other SNL writers. For me Sprockets was kind of remininiscent of things I saw like [Documenta Kassel](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Documenta) and the [Giant Pick Axe](http://www.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&q=kassel+modern+art+sculpture+pick+axe&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1024&bih=580)… and now, artists like Christo. ---

I suppose KMFDM (Kein Mitleid Fur Die Mehrheit or “No sympathy for the majority”) can sort of squeeze in here. Their song “Megalomaniac” has a pretty cheesy video, and the song has some pretty disgusting lyrics like: \*"Like a fiendish tropic virus Spitting bile at all you whores Razor-sharp tongue-in-cheek Poking in your open sores A wolf in sheep’s clothing The ultimate disgrace Wrapped up as a gift of god Exploding in your face"\* Video: [KMFDM - Megalomaniac [HD] - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvZqWq0ZNjk) For added creepy factor, some lyrics from this band’s songs were posted on Eric Harris’ website, one of the Columbine killers. Can someone reliably translate the opening lines to this song? I’m having trouble with some of the words. They are: \*Die wunder dieser welt werden dir geschenkt Gluck ist nicht kauflich sehnsucht bleibt unerreicht Preisratsel Winken nimmersatt Kein mitleid fur die mehrheit \* Something about the wonders of the world I give to you, happiness cannot be bought and is unattainable…I have no idea what the middle two lines mean. Man, the tubes, they burn my eyes. I started off on a mild journey into nostalgia but the links, oh the cursed links, they just kept going deeper and deeper into the madness, further and further away from the shore of sanity into a braying sea of cacophony. I have a a hard time believing that [DÖF](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXYBh_ut-fo) is real. It almost seems like somebody is playing a trick on me… that this was made in some [Russian soundstage](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4q_zIclUs0) somewhere to create some alternate reality. I also can barely believe this is real… [In the car ahead of me](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIXnzdzEwLw&feature=related). Some easy listening… [The Red Sun of Barbados](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vmE-JOmpd4&feature=related). I remember [Hubert Kah](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsm2_o-S1dU&feature=related). Not fondly… kinda the same way one might remember Thomas Dolby. Fraulein Menkes [Tall Mountains](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbfEUX-USpQ&feature=related)?? Just so everyone knows… that song was originally recorded in English, then translated for the German “Disko” market. Even Hassellhoff knows you have to divide and conquer Germany. … Just like all of the “German Invasion” Pop of the eighties (Nena, Falco, Schilling) was originally recorded in German, then translated for the American Market. ---
