I think your post was wrong from the get-go. You started by implying that the assumption was that ‘everyone you meet’ is a murderer.

Kinda hard to see how it could *not *be a grave risk. Letting a complete stranger into your house with your family while you are all asleep is about as grave a risk as it’s possible to imagine.

I was saying that a number of people seem to have an abject terror of other people. Which is so far out of proportion to the actual risk that it becomes a significant problem, both to society and to the people who are so fearful.

It is interesting to note, though, that opinions seem very different among people who live in more extreme environments, where this kind of thing is a real risk.
