I dated a guy with a goatee for almost a year. Let me tell you this: the goatee had no effect whatsoever on the fact that I wanted to date him. I remember one time before we hooked up, he shaved it off and I told him I thought he looked nice without it. Over the course of the relationship he shaved it off and re-grew it a few times. It’s not like I dumped him whenever he shaved it off, then two weeks later came running back to him saying, “Oh you goatee stud you, I want you back so bad now that you have that small ammount of facial hair on your chin!” ---

Having looked at the OP’s posting history, I think he won’t be back to defend his position. Though, if he’s even still reading this, I don’t like goatees, though I think my fiance would look great with a full beard. I’ll still marry him even if he doesn’t grow one, though 🙂 ---

Wow, I apparently dropped a turd with this one! Well, this is the BBQ board, after all, which is why I’m BBQ’ing! To the knee-jerk responders: Why is your automatic reponse to attack my own sexual history? Unless I’ve hit a special nerve in yourself…eh? Eh? Your own ignorance is revealed by the brass assumption that I can’t get laid, don’t have a life, am a disgruntled nice guy, am bitter, etc. I’ve had sexual relationships with younger women (19- & 21-year old, I’m 37), “normal” same age relationships, platonic friendships with pretty women, and a marriage for 10 years (4 years after the divorce, I’m her daughters’ godfather). So I think I do have maybe just a tad bit of respect and understanding of women. Now, to the thoughtful responders: Perhaps I was bit too encompassing by implying that ALL with goatees are using it as a prop. I see now that some wear them for more practical or benign reasons. And no, I didn’t mean to imply that ALL younger women are stupid and naive either. But I am an observant type of person and I have observed this a great deal and, taken together with other factors (or “props”, as I see them), I can see subtle male strategies at work. Perhaps, I’m a little jaded because of having roomed with my brother for awhile. You see, he’s good with the props. He wears certain clothing to achieve a certain style, modifies his accent a little, lays down a little bullshittin’ and occasionally is able to take a girl to bed the same night. And, yes, to a certain extent, I admire his ability and skills to do that. But, it makes me wonder, what kind of woman (other than nymphos) has sex, a very intimate thing, with a stranger on the same night? And with a little practice and superficial changes, I could do the same thing too, I’m sure of it. Grow a goatee to achieve a rougher or more mysterious look, for example. But everytime I’ve tried it, I’ve felt uncomfortable with the deceptive game I’m playing with women whose personalities I don’t really like or love but who have hot bodies. And that takes away my confidence, thus not making me a good player. So, if you’re a guy who wears a goatee to supplement your props for the purpose of projecting a bad boy persona for the purpose of attracting younger women who like that type of image then, yes, I think that you are a POSER. Likewise, if you’re a girl who falls sexually for a guy based on his superficial bad boy image and without getting to really know him first and subsequently complain that men are pigs, yes, I think that you are NAIVE. ---

I have a goatee. It has not helped with getting me a hot young woman. It has helped me get a hot dude who’s a couple years older than me, though. I guess mine’s broken. ---

I’ve got a goatee. Where are my hot chicks? Seriously, any hairstyle or clothing choice is made in the belief that it will make you look better. Otherwise we’d all go around in Mao suits. Even the suit and tie we wear to an office is there to make us look more professional. If wearing a goatee makes you more attractive to women, then why not grow a goatee? ---

I love facial hair of any kind. I think the guys in ZZ Top are hot. I would probably never be attracted to a clean-shaven guy, just not my thing. And oh yeah, fuck ya for saying that hot women should downplay their looks. I’m hot, and I like it. And anyone who can’t see beyond my body is going to be pretty transparent in a matter of minutes. Hey, I stand by my original argument: _Maybe “hot” girls don’t find you attractive_. They don’t _have_ to, after all. They might have an opinion or two of their own. And maybe a goatee just isn’t enough to cover all the other things they dislike about you. I don’t even mean this to be insulting. Just a possibility to consider. FWIW - I hate goatees, though I don’t tell other people how to wear their facial hair. My husbands shaves his facial hair for me (not because I ask, but possibly because I complain 😉 ), since I don’t like the prickly feeling when he kisses me. Am I a “hot chick”? Possibly, depending on one’s tastes. Do I fall for goatees: no. ---
