On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the ugliest, 10 being the most beautiful/handsome, how do you rate? And I don’t mean all-dolled-up-ready-for-your-glamour-shot looks, but your normal, natural, god-given looks. Anonymous poll to follow. ---

I gave myself a 5. I’m short and I’m fat and my teeth are not aging well, but objectively I don’t think I’m horrendously ugly. However, I am certainly not “above average,” either. ---

I’m an absolute definite 1. ETA: In fact, I’ve recently taken to covering my face and wearing long sleeves and gloves year round so people don’t have to see more of my skin than they have to. I also just got done covering the mirrors in my house because I hate looking at myself, and close my eyes when I bathe so I don’t have to see myself. (Not sarcasm) ---

I voted 7. I have a decently attractive face. I could stand to lose about 20 lbs, maybe that’d bump me up to an 8, but I’m not really overweight at the weight I am now so it’s not too bad. I have lost most of my tan as well, could stand to get it back. I honestly feel like most people are at least 6’s or 7’s though, so that should tell you what I think of the scale. 1’s are people who are horribly disfigured, and 5’s are people who are fairly ugly, to me anyway. ---

In this society, I think most people would put me at a 2 or so. Crooked, protruding teeth and overweight is a deal breaker for many. Throw in some adult acne, and we have a hard road to tow, folks. But I swear to god…for a tiny subset of people, I seem to rate much higher. I think my personality really does factor in and give me a boost with the right kind of people. So that’s nice. My sisters growing up where considered pretty much tens. Most of my friends as a teenager too. Sooo…yeah. That was an interesting experience. ---

I’m not accusing you of that at all…I’m just trying to frame the following question… Do you honestly think you are hideous, or are you just needing some positive attention right now? You look fine. ETA: Also, if you are being totally sincere, I wonder, do you look at other average looking people and find them hideous? I know that is kind of impossible to answer. ---

That said, I know I have severe body image issues so it was probably a bad idea to post this since I can’t fairly give an objective assessment (even if it was my **honest** assessment). In fact I rarely see what I’d rate below a 7-8 (male or female), even though that kind of breaks the scale. I know I’m kind of crazy, because I can see people I think look good that I also can objectively assess look a lot like me, but I fail to be able to assess myself any higher and I legitimately feel like crying and/or vomiting when I see myself. Though I didn’t really connect the dots that some people look like me and I also think look fine until I thought about your question.
