Sigh, every piece of good news has to have a downside.

This actually goes goes to further prove my theory that everything on Earth causes one type of cancer, but prevents another type.

Wasn’t there an issue of the NEJM that had papers showing evidence that coffee could, in one study, reduce heart disease risk and, in another study, increase heart disease risk?

There was an update on this in the news in the last few days.

Actually Oscar Wilde said “Everything in moderation, including moderation”, which I think makes more sense.

I was relatively certain it was a quote, but google wasn’t forthcoming so I just went with what I could recall. So, cool. 🆒

Unless I misread, I didn’t see any suggestion that _eating_ them has been linked with preventing prostate cancer. If they discovered that the chemical works to kill tumor cells when applied directly, that shouldn’t come as much of a shock since it’s a tissue irritant. I don’t see why it would even remotely follow that you should eat them.

The BBC article is incomplete in this regard. The trial mice were, in fact, fed the dose of capsaicin orally:
[

> [@](#):
>
> Lehmann estimated that the dose of pepper extract fed orally to the mice was equivalent to giving 400 milligrams of capsaicin three times a week to a 200 pound man, roughly equivalent to between three and eight fresh habañera peppers – depending on the pepper’s capsaicin content.
