Hot tub advice

My sous vide cooker has Bluetooth and wifi so I can monitor/adjust it wherever I am, and it’s really just a hot tub on a micro scale.

Ours is a relatively recent model with an ozonator, which makes the chemical work even easier. You might want to look into that as well.

I’m not sure what’s involved in establishing dedicated 220v service. We have electricity and a pretty new box that can still handle more load. Would we need to establish a separate 220v box for the tub?

Thanks again, everyone.

If you’re asking, you definitely want an electrician to look at it and get you hooked up. The end result is likely a conduit running from the main breaker box to a location maybe 10-ish feet from the tub, where there is another little box with a 240v GFCI breaker. From that, another conduited wire to the tub–just hardwire it, a cord & plug is a whole level of unsafety to worry about. The salespeople should be able to arrange the electrical hookup for you when the tub is delivered. The electrical hardware alone will likely run you a couple hundred buckazoids.

Which is why I love my Softub (link above) as it needs no special hardware, electrical, etc. Just a solid level spot to put the tub on.

Truth be told, I’m not prepared to discuss the merits of 120 plug-in vs 240 hard-wire. I just get a thrill doing my own electrical work. Nothing compares to the heart pounding sensation as I finish it all up with slipping the new breaker into place–God what a rush!

Check the regs in the county/town where the hot tub will be. We have a dedicated power supply for our hot tub and it had to be a certain number of feet away, etc. I wouldn’t want to DIY that.

Yeah, we’re going to use contractors for all of it from building a deck to installing the tub.i have a contractor renovating the cabin now, it’s gutted, so hows the time to do this.
