3 months on and they’re now replacing a tarp which had blown away, exposing a corpse to view. The identities of the 2 deceased workers in the wreckage is known. What a day for the families of one of them.

Since this is no longer “breaking news”, I have removed the breaking news tag from the title so that it does not cause more confusion.
Thanks… I saw the thread title and thought “Another one?” and am relieved it wasn’t another incident.
I guess I was naive about this sort of thing. I had thought this building would’ve been imploded within a few weeks of the collapse. This thing is walking distance from my office … and I don’t have any better information than anyone else how long it will take to take this collapse to resolution.
Latest is that the implosion will take place “sometime in March”. Guess we’ll see.
Yes, the news done broke. Along with the hotel.
Straight to hell for that one.
I’m no expert on controlled demolition but at least I have a working knowledge of blowing shit up as a combat engineer. The controlled demolition that we see videos of are achieved by placing explosives deep within a structure while also gutting what you can beforehand. That is not possible in this case. In fact I’m kind of surprised they are trying it at all. I would have guessed wrecking ball and bulldozers would be safer but I’m apparently wrong. Planning and set up to take the building down without damaging surrounding structures will take a long time.
As it happens, some surrounding buildings will be demolished along with the Hard Rock Hotel building (scroll about halfway down, the info is buried). Or at least that’s the plan right now.
A few weeks ago, the developers had submitted a demolition date in December of 2020. The city balked, and now March is the month that gets thrown about.
The body of one of the workers killed was exposed from under a tarp by the wind. Here’s CNN’s coverage: New Orleans Hard Rock Hotel: It's been 3 months since the collapse, and the bodies of those killed are still there | CNN
