Alan Ladd was doable, especially in Shane and Saskatchewan. William Holden was pretty hot in Picnic. Ditto Robert Mitchum. Dreamy eyes, and a nice chest. ---

Myrna Loy, Barbara Kent, Rosalind Russell, Marion Davies, Martha Vickers, Dorothy Malone, and Barbara Stanwyck just to mention a few not already listed. (I hope.) What I really love about most of the actresses in this thread is that they played intelligent. They were strong, bright, equal partners to the men. There have been several threads lately about the ludicrousness of recent films in which bimbo babes are playing Ph.D.s. You could never say that about Myrna, Barbara S. or Rosalind, no matter what their roles. ---

Of the links posted in this thread, I’d say the only one that I find beautiful is **Ava Gardner**. The rest of them seem to have really big faces, either big foreheads or big chins or something. ---

Since I’m late to the thread, I’ll have to be satisfied with seconding Claudette Colbert and Irish McCalla. And I’ll RAISE you Mary Pickford. That’s right, Mary Pickford. I saw a documentary about her once, and it had a scene where the male lead kissed her unexpectedly. She did that wiping her lips, eek, awful, yuck stuff, but then she looks at him with this sizzling-hot “That may have been awful but I want a LOT MORE of it!!” look that gave her instant hottie status in my book. ---

I was channel surfing one night and happened upon a scene where a blonde was getting out of a car. First these incredibly long legs emerged, followed by a heavenly hiney. She turned slowly, allowing a profile glimpse of some fine assets and when I finally saw her face I realized it was [\*\*Deborah Kerr.](http://www.deborah-kerr.idoneos.com/) \*\* Even leaving _From Here to Eternity_ oof her list of films, she was seriously hot. ---

What I want to know is how they all got such wonderful hair. Actresses today, who presumably have access to the best, they look like they’ve just rolled out of bed, half the time. Does the Veronica Lake look just seem simple and actually required hours of prep that no modern actress would put up with? ---

No, they spend top dollar to look like street kids who just happen to be stars. Tom Wolfe described it in his intro to _Rolling Stone: The Photographs_. For a good look at someone having it both ways, look at the Britney Spears video for “Lucky.” As the Narrator, she has “rolled out of bed” street hair, and as Lucky, she has 30s Movie Star hair. Clearly, she could go either way but goes with what kids actually wear most of the time. ---
