House overrides Trump's veto of the military authorization [corrected title] bill

Senate override vote happening now. Cruising to pass bigly.

Done, 81-13

Interestingly, exactly 13 Senators (a mix of Rs and Ds) voted against the NDAA when it passed the Senate a few weeks ago. Looks like Trump’s veto didn’t sway a single Senator.

Not surprising that he did not get any more votes against – the substance of thios bill having been debated and negotiated to exhaustion in the course of the original passage, when DJT tweeted “Negotiate a better Bill, or get better leaders, NOW!”(*) he was, as has become his habit, ignoring that this was what HAD been already negotiated and horsetraded on his own Administration’s behalf.

For the same reason mentioned above, when it became clear the cloture would succeed, Mitch and Chuck rounded up the troops and said “let’s just finish this one off right now” rather than go into 30 hours of redundant debate.

This is how the sausage is made.

(* And he forgot that he was in no position to threaten Senate leaders…)

Come on, you know that the way he looks at it, it’s so that HE can threaten to sue Twitter/FB/Apple/Google/etc. for every word transmitted about him and have them each pay him a billion in STFU Money in a sealed, NDA-protected settlement.

I hadn’t thought of it that way but you are almost certainly right. He wants to go after everyone who has said a mean thing about him.

How did the GA senators vote? Is Trump about to go on a tirade?

Both were expected to miss the vote while out campaigning, plus Perdue’s quarantined as of yesterday or the day before. They did vote for the original passage so they stand for the 2 fewer Ayes it got today.

Had McConnell needed their votes for this, things would have been a lot touchier.

And of course he’s going to go on a tirade, what do you expect?

Maybe he will blow a gasket and expire in a cloud of hot air. One can hope.

Been hoping that for years…“Is this the one that pops an aneurysm?”…still waiting…

Trump appealed to his base opposing NDAA with respect to removing Confederate names from military bases.

Trump appealed to his base opposing NDAA with respect to repealing Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.

In both cases, corporate media ate it up. So did most everyone else.

However, embedded within NDAA is the Corporate Transparency Act. CTA require corporations and limited liability companies established in the United States to disclose their real owners to the Treasury Department, making it harder to anonymously launder money or evade taxes. The rule applies to future and existing entities alike.

In other words, CTA now forces Trump (and his family) to disclose the shell companies they own and the money they hide. Trump’s ego is bruised by Confederate name changes and what people say about him in social media. However, Trump has a real chance of criminal charges and jail time because of CTA. That’s why he vetoed NDAA.

How would he actually know this? Keeping in mind his dislike for briefings and details, does he have someone check for information that could hurt him/his businesses?

Unless the law applies to offshore corps & LLCs that’s going to trap no bigger fish than the occasional greedy doctor, lawyer, or minor celeb.

I predict a big boom in the offshore corps biz for the few folks who set up their shell(s) based in US states.

Hiding money in off-shore accounts has been illegal for a while. This law now targets the om-shore loop hole.

And all the federal prisons full of people implicated by the Panama Papers show…oh wait, no one went to jail after that?
