House passes anti-"surge" resolution -- now what?

Surely to Christ, Sam, after all that’s happened in four years, it’s time to accept the Iraq War was a bad idea?

The surge concept isn’t going to work, Sam. It doesn’t matter if you fund them as much as you think is necessary; it will fail. It will OBVIOUSLY fail; there is no chance at all it will succeed. If you don’t believe me, let’s put some money on it. Any opposition to the surge lends credibility to one’s position on national defense, because only a liar or a fool would believe it’ll work. I really don’t think Abizaid honestly thinks it’ll work; it’s just the best he could have gotten under today’s circumstances.

The Democrats aren’t going nearly far enough (regrettably, they don’t have enough votes to do what needs to be done anyway) but at least they’re slightly on the right side. You’re not.

It sure is, since they’ll be much safer if brought home. That’s what Murtha’s aiming for.

First of all, there’s no “accusation.” It’s a matter of confirmed fact.

Secondly, “bring troops home” IS the plan. There’s no need for an occupation plan for Ft. Hood.

Sam, at what point are you going to concede you were wrong about all of this? Have you not gone back and read your hilarious 2003 post where you predicted how easy all this would be? ISn’t it time you showed a little humility on this subject, when you’ve been so dramatically, embarassingly proven absolutely wrong? Time to stop digging, buddy.

The U.S. is winning the war. Sam is winning the argument. If you can’t see that you’re just blinded by partisan ideology!

Verbally declaring how you support the troops and actually doing it are not the same.
During the debate on the Bankruptcy Bill the Democrats asked for a couple dispensations. They wanted exemption for people with catastrophic illnesses and for soldiers who keep getting extensions on their service time. The Repub majority voted in one to reject these.
How does that support the troops.?
Not supplying proper armor .How does that support them. ?Endlessly extending their service time and making it more likely to die . How does that support them?
They are pitiously using the patriotism of our soldiers to do their own dirty work.

Who would you say is “winning”, then? :dubious: It ain’t us. Even our own generals say we can’t “win” there militarily. Every metric is trending that way, too.

'Fraid so.

What proof to the contrary *would * you accept, if not unanimity of polls? You can’t let yourself indulge in the same delusional thinking that got us into this.

That’s about the mean of what “the American people” want, yes.

Things are perking, though.
