Same 4 as last time. Two votes not cast so far - Democrats I think. Probably will circle back to them. Cloud, Clyde, and Crane are the next 3… and they all voted Donalds. Onwards and upwards. Nice of so many of them to be early in the alphabet so we can ignore the rest of the vote once we hit the D’s. He literally gave them everything they asked for and it doesn’t matter a bit. ---

ISTM the question at this point is whether McCarthy loses any more votes this time. But yes, by now it’s clear: the crazies basically wants him gone, and to be given absolute veto power over who runs the House and how, and will only accept unconditional surrender. ---

This paragraph is so true… _While it’s not impossible to have sympathy for any political leader facing the reactionary extremists of the GOP’s far-right bloc, McCarthy made his bed. Throughout his 16 years in Congress, he has worn his political ambitions on his sleeve. He isn’t associated with any notable policy objectives, unlike Paul Ryan or Newt Gingrich. In a party that demands orthodoxy, his politics are malleable and transactional. He isn’t a leader who projects confidence or ideological consistency but rather a follower of the prevailing political winds._ ---

The votes are a mandated distraction that takes them away from doing what they need to do. In theory, he’s still the leader of the Republican party so everyone would sort of be obligated to choose him. And, as a result of that, it would tank the Republican agenda for the next two years since Trump would be completely ineffective in the role.
