Did ABC just say that members-elect are being allowed to vote? I thought the whole point of doing the Speaker vote before the searing-in was so that the “old” crew could choose the new Speaker?? ---

Nah, this really is it. They will all vote Present (except _maybe_ Good, but probably even him). And _maybe_ Gaetz will vote McCarthy, but only if he really does think that’s the only way to repair whatever damage his stunt caused. I have no idea why this couldn’t have all happened in the previous ballot, unless maybe the shocking nature of the literal fight on the House floor and the realization of what a terrible news story that would be to have hanging around all weekend smacked some sense into the holdouts. ---

Trump can only take credit if Gaetz flips to pro-McCarthy. If the other members changing to “Present” votes does it, then he can’t. I mean, he will anyway, but that was always a given. ---
